This Is My Friend....
I have a few friends in Brno. They welcomed me to their amazing city but Tomas had the times to show me around his beloved city. A student.
He's standing just outside the Casemates, on Spilberk Castle.

hi
Two of my friends and i are going on an exchange to Brno at the begining of Feb, we are wondering what places are worth a visit in and around the Czech Republic?
we are also interested in the best way to travel to Prague and Krakow as these are possible places we could be flying to/from?
thanks
Best way to get from Brno to Prague is by express bus via the autobahn. Take the express train to Krakow. Take express bus to Olomouc if you like well preserved Baroque architecture. Pernstejn castle is near Brno. Vienna is an easy trip from Brno. Visit Mikulov along the way. Many fascinating places to visit in the area. See member "Globetrott's" VT pages for suggestions. They are terrific. I have a few Czech pages, as do many other members.
near Brno there are many small towns that are worth visit, e.g. Mikulov or Lednice with its castle - however its gardens would be nicer in spring.
Hello,
from Prague to Brno take a bus Student Agency www.studentagency.cz. It is the best and cheapest. You can visit in Brno castle Spilberk, cathedral Petrov, vila Tugendhat, city center,... Just check out our pages about Brno and from others VT travellers. Around Brno is worth Mikulov, Lednice-Valtice area, Kromeriz and also Olomouc on the way to Poland. To Krakow you can go by train through Ostrava www.cd.cz.
Wish you wonderful trip!
Many interesting historical and natural wonders to 50-60 km from Brno

Franz Freiherr von der Trenck ( 1711 - 1749 ) was a daredivil and the commander of a troup of soldiers, called "Panduren" he took part in several wars, mostly sucessful and always he was fighting in the first row of his men.
Finally he was taken into prison in Brno / Brünn, where he died after having taken a poison.
He gave most of his posessions to the capucine monastery and that is the reason, why you may still see him in the catacombes of the church.
ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo ooo
All those of you beeing able to understand german, may click on the link below for the long story of adventures of Freiherr von der Trenck.
And it also shows a drawing of the uniform of the "Panduren", who looked rather like turks and not like troops of empress Maria Theresia...
There is a few interesting but quite hidden spots. Definitely worth seeking and seeing!
Even many Brno locals don't know about them. For example this stone-bee sitting at the top of one corner-building at Divadelni street, just the oposite of the Mahen theatre.
One of my grandmothers came from Milicov - close to Jihlava / Iglau.
For that reason I came there already once in communiste times, about 1978 in order to search for relatives. We stayed in a hotel in Jihlava and I was really impressed by the great town-square of the 1st city I could explore in Tschechoslovakia.
When I returned in summer 2004 I have to admit, it was nice, especially the old tower of the wall, but on the total - and after having seen so many much more beautiful towns in Czechia - I was a bit disappointed...
Jihlava / Iglau is 80 km west of Brno / Brünn - and you may easily get there on the highway to Prague
ooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
You may click here in order to
see Jihlava / Iglau on a map of

Now, this is supposed to be a tower somewhere near the Old Town Hall. Too bad that we couldn't see it clearer. Otherwise, it would look really amazing !
My biggest reason why I should buy a digital camera. Does a digital camera take good night time photography ?
Anybody can comment on this to me ?
