Great arquitecture
by pili
Karlovy Vary has a great architecture characterized by the Art Nouveau and historicism styles of the end of the 19th century encircled with green parks and look-out towers. But the most important thing is that the city center had been almost complete makeover, as you can see in all the pictures.-

On 2 great Art Nouveau buildings I saw that name of Felix Zawojski - but I have no idea about this person !
Was he the architect or simply the owner of the house ??
maybe somebody knows and might tell me.
The building is close to Trzni Kolonada
The Russian-Orthodox Church of St. Peter and Paul

Completed in 1897 and built in the typical Byzantine style. The construction project was made by the architect Gustav Wiedermann from Franzensbad and it was based on building plans of the Russian academic Uchtomsk. The interior of the church is decorated with paintings and icons, gifts of wealthy Russian guests from the close of the 19th century.

I'll be back

I've been to Karlovy Vary twice, both times for the International Film Festival. If you love film and happen to be at a reasonable distance from the Czech Republic, I strongly recommend you attend the festival It happens in the summer, mid-July usually, and presents hundreds of new films.
The city is very beautiful, but chances are it is a little bit boring outside of festival time. This year I arrived one day before the festival started and got a feeling of that.
If you don't speak Czech, Russian or German, Karlovy Vary - as opposed to Prague, where many people speak English - can be difficult. In stores no one speaks English (I tried to buy shoes, a funny story I'll tell you guys later). I also had a comic episode with a grouo of Russian senior citizens at midnight, at the locked front door of hour hotel. Another funny story to tell later.
