only a few sins in architecture
It is a shame to see such a modern building between all the other great historic buildings.
It is a hotel with a big swimmingpool, built at a time, when people cared less about old architecture.
This hotel is almost opposite the General postoffice, at the beginning of the spa-promenade.
Karlovy Vary became famous worldwide because of the mineral springs. There are about one hundred springs altogether, but not all are used.
You can access about 12 or 13 springs. You can also drink from them, but be aware - the water has awful taste and in most cases is very hot!!! I knew about the taste & temperature even before my first visit so I only took a small sip. Most people, however, pour a glass/coup as if it is beer and then spit around in disgust :-))
There exist special cups for tasting spring waters that can be bought at any souvenir shop. They come in all sizes & are usually decorated with some Karlovy Vary motif so they make really nice presents.
You can find detailed info about springs, their temperature and composition at www.karlovyvary.cz

The reconstruction of the historical building from the late 18th century, which was known as Rudolfshof (Rudolph’s Court) and which, since the beginning of its existence, had been providing services at first to travellers and later to spa guests, among others also to the first Turkish President, Kemal Atatürk, has remodelled this architectural gem into its modern lay out on the inside, while fully preserving its outer historical appearance.
"carlsbad plaza hotel"
The nostalgic picturesque ambience of the ancient spa town with its typical atmosphere and “genius locci” of the old times may be found in the first Wellnessland in Karlovy Vary, in the "Alt Karlsbad".
"the charles IV spring"
Temperature 63,8°C, CO2 content 237 mg/l, yield 4,8 l/min.
An old legend says that it was right at this spring where the founder of the spa town himself, the emperor and king Charles IV, tried to cure his sore limbs. There is a relief by Zörkler above the springs vase. Its name is "The Discovery of Karlovy Vary". Small thermal springs have existed in the place of the present big spring since long ago. They could be found in the arcade of the old town hall When the present wooden colonnade was built, the spring vase got its fixed position and thermal water from it started to be used in the drinking cure.
