Travel Tips for Karlovy Vary

Grandhotel Pupp & a love-affair

by globetrott

At the end of the mainstreet in Karlovy vary / Karlsbad you will get to the most famous hotel in town.
Have a look for the great architecture and considder, that everything started with a love-affair...

...when one of the rich guests came to Karlsbad, he also had his personal cook and his pattissier ( Konditor / pastry-cook ) with him.
The pastry-cook fell in love with a lovely girl from Karlovy Vary and started his business step by step.

Trzni Kolonada

by globetrott

Trzni Kolonada was built completely of wood in 1883. It is rather small and even looks a bit poor against he other Kolonadas.
Opposite of it is Vridelni Kolonada - inside a modern building of 1975 ( Not really my taste of an interesting building, so I did not ake any pics !)
The water gets out of the well there with a temperature of 72 degrees Celsius

"Page under construction"

Karlovy Vary, also known as Carlsbad, is the biggest and most famous spa town in the Czech Republic. More than 70 hot springs can be found here and twelve of them are used for the drinking treatment. The people from Karlovy Vary like to say that the 13th spring is the Becherovka - traditional Czech liquor made in Karlovy Vary..

The town is situated on the confluence of the Tepla and the Ohre Rivers, and surrounded by three mountain ranges. More than a third of the town area is wooded, and woods surround the town on all sides. There are extensive wooded paths to wander, and architecture characterized by the Art Nouveau and historicism styles of the end of the 19th century. It was during this time that many hotels, baths, churches, and the post office were built.
Karlovy Vary is home to the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, one of the oldest in the world.
