BEST Hotel Garni Olomouc
Na Strelnici 48, Olomouc, 77900, Czech Republic
OUT FROM THE CITY CENTRE
I chose this Hotel because it was away from the city, the price was reasonable for Olomouc and there was car parking available.
The Hotel advertises itself as having "cheap and quality accommodation in the city centre." & "Rooms are functional and simply furnished, yet elegantly."
I agree with the cheap, functional and simply furnished, and NOT with quality accommodation and elegantly furnished. It does not look like the website.
The building is a bit like a block of flats. I imagine it would be patronized well with patrons of the nearby Soccer stadium.
Our room was at the end of a passage on the 5th floor. We had views over the stadium and a park.
We had a shower & toilet, heating, a table & two chairs, old Television and see through curtains that let all the light in - no sleeping in here. There wasn't any facilities for making a cup of tea or coffee.
The area was quiet and we did have a good nights sleep. This could be a lot different when a soccer match is being played at the Stadium!
A buffet breakfast was included and could be eaten between 6:30 to 9:00am.
I think for the price we paid, what we got was acceptable except for the curtains.
It does have and outdoor pool for use in summer, Free WiFi is available in all areas, and is free of charge, ATM on site, vending machine, luggage storage, fax & photocopying service, a Lift which I appreciated, 24-hour front desk and non - smoking rooms.
Languages spoken are English and Czech
Check - In is 2 pm and check-out is 11 am.
A plus is the excellent Restaurant at the back of the soccer stadium that we walked to.
Good price and location
Just a short walk from the main town square and in a quiet neighborhood. Comfortable though the breakfast was nothing special.

getting to olomouc
Travelling to Krakow, and want to stop off in Olomouc for the night. What are the rail connections to get there? I looked in "raileurope.com" and it requires the change stations which I don't know. Thanks.
Re: getting to olomouc
Your question doesn't mention your departure point.
From where will you be travelling to Krakow ?
If it is Praha, the answer is easy : Olomouc is on the railway line between Praha and Krakow.
Re: Re: getting to olomouc
Yeah, I did leave out the important fact that we are travelling from Prague. Thanks.

Denisova is one of the main streets of Olomouc. To get to the Old Town from bus and train station get a tram - you will go this street.
On the picture you can see view on Denisova Street with the Cathedral in the background.
School building of old University
The University founded in 1573 consisted of Philosophy faculty and Theological Faculty. Now it houses the study rooms and depositories of the Regional Museum. I does not take long by just a look of this building that in the past it has not been looked after very well but still it has great charm.
The Holy Trinity Column
That's the symbol of Olomouc and it's most important monument. The Holy Trinity Column (Sousosi Nejseteisi trojice) is probably the most beautiful one of its genre. It was bult between 1716 and 1754 by sculpturer V. Render and it's probably the biggest baroque sculpture in central Europe.
Dolni Namesti is the second largest square in Old Olomouc, and just few metres south of Horni Nam.
In this square you can find the Marian Column of the "black death" (Mariansky morovy sloup), the beautiful church of St.Mary's annunciation, built in 1661, and the beautiful Hauenschild Palace, in Renassaiance style of the 16th century.
