the old pharmacy
This old pharmacy is nice to look at from outside and it even looks better inside, where you are of course mostly not able to take any pics. In any case I always love to see such old pharmacies, most of them have not changed their interior during the last 100 or even more years.
Lekarna is the czech word for pharmacy and this one is just 50 meters from the townhall, on the main-square, so you cannot miss it !
Quite cosy interior, small summer garden.
Prices are reasonable, personnel kind but SO slowly!
Too much smoke inside, and just little space for the non-smokers; but because there are no windows in this non-smoking room, there is too hot - it is almost better to sit in the smoking area.
Almost every town or village in the Czech Republic will have a Holy Trinity Plague Column on the town-centre in order to commemorate the end of the plague of 1715. The Plague Column of Olomouc is certainly the most beautiful and also biggest such monument.It needed 38 years to build this giant monument (1716-1754), 35 meters high and it has a small chapel in its groundfloor. The monument consists of 18 statues of saints, 12 sculptures holding a lantern, 6 reliefs of apostels and finally the holy trinity, made of copper and covered with gold and in the year 2000 it was granted the title "World Heritage" by the UNESCO.
The original technique of the Astronomical Clock of Olomouc dates back to the year 1419 and the decorations on the ouside of the clock were changed several times over the centuries. Finally in WW II the Astronomical Clock was damaged so much that the city of Olomouc decided to rebuild it in contemporary style with plenty of mosaiques showing the work that has to be done in different times of the year and pictures showing the different working-classes.
Daily at 12.00 noon there will be a short performance of the clock !
This is the almost thousand years old the beautiful Hradisko Monastery build during the "Swedish times". in the past century its been used as a hospital. Do read all about it check the official link.
