Great hostel ina great town
Great place to stay; its a small apartment that feels like a friends house - super easy to get to know people. The staff are full of information about the town and surrounding area, encouraging you to visit interesting and good-value places that you'd never know about otherwise. The city is very beautiful, with a relaxed atmosphere and a variety of bars, restaurants and teahouses. Easy to spend several days here, exploring.
Unique Quality: Super-comfy lounge, great view from kitchen, free food shelves, events board for concerts and festivals (beer festival at a nearby town when i was there), felt just like staying with friends and seemed to attract good travellers, easy to find someone for good conversation

Hostel owner from hell
I recommend avoiding the Poets Corner hostel.The hostel itself is not really a problem.The problem is the owner.He is an arrogant,false,pretentious and prejudiced person.For guests who stay more than a few days and are not friends with a member of staff,there is a pecking order in terms of nationalities-his own is at the top of course-and also gender can be a factor.If you don't tick the right boxes you may be encouraged to leave.For example you may be blamed repeatedly for other guests unwashed dishes or nitpicked for things like walking too loudly.However when he is surrounded by many backpackers-most of whom leave in a few days anyway-he behaves quite differently than when he is not.
I have stayed in probably 200 hostels over 13 years and I have never encountered a hostel owner as unpleasant as this one.
He had a monopoly for 7 years but now there is a new hostel in Olomouc,so I hope they run him out of town.

Olomouc's best (and only!) Hostel!
I spent 1 night at the Poets' corner but it was a very nice experience! The place is very small, clean and quiet (no smoking, no shouting and, possibly, no shoes are the 3 rules of the hostel).
The hostel crew is very nice and friendly, staying there it's like being part of the hostel's family! We had dinner with the other guys and girls in the hostel and the crew too in a restaurant downtown, we had a very nice time together!
Unique Quality: Clean and quiet.
Very central position.
Very nice and friendly staff.
Toilet and bathroom on floor.
Very "familiar" atmosphere.
Low prices.
No curfew, no lockout.

THE BEST HOSTEL IN TOWN
A quirky little place right near the center and a three minute walk to the tram station that will take you straight to the train. It's small, but at 250kc it has a nice large kitchen and good facilities. You even have to take your shoes off upon entering the hostel! The atmosphere is very laid back and comfortable. I got the best sleep of my entire trip on the comfortable beds. You will probably want to book it in advance in the summertime.
Unique Quality: The only downside is the lighting. It is located on a top floor of an apartment building and the lightswitch for the stairwell is at the bottom of the stairs. So when you enter at night, you have to flip the switch and then run up the stairs as fast as you can and hope that you make it to the top before the timer runs out and the lights go off. I never made it in time, which lead me to feeling around in the dark for the doorknob and key hole on many occasions.
