Climb on the St. Bartholomew´s Church, you´ll have a brilliant view over the old town For me with my love for cemeteries and other spectacular spots, i felt very good visiting the historical undergound. Think this is always something a little spooky.
Water-powered ironworks
by CzechKouple4Fun
Dobriv is a small village in the Brdy region with well preserved folk architecture (timbered houses, barns). The biggest attraction is the water-powered ironworks (listed in UNESCO) with original machinery - hammers, scales...
This relic was first mentioned in records in 1505 and worked uniterruptedly until 1956. In the Thirty Years War (1618-1648) the forge also made cannon-balls and weapons.
Direction - Dobriv is located about 30 km west from Pilsen. From Pilsen take E50 to Prague, exit Rokycany, go to Mirosov and than to Dobriv.
What a building for a solarium
by globetrott
When walking to the Plzen-brewery, you may pass by this interesting building,
that is under reconstruction at the moment and obviously was used as a solarium for a
certain time.
This building is just across the river, seen from the brewery.
U Salzmannu
by globetrott
U Salzmannu is a traditional inn close to the brewery museum and it attracted me in the first moment by its lovely fassade.
But of course it is also a great place to have a dinner and a beer...
...I mean LOTS of beers of course ! The local Pilsner beer of course
Namesti Republiky
by King_Golo
The Square of the Republic, or Namesti Republiky in Czech, is the actual centre of the old town. Wherever you go, your steps will some time or the other lead you to this nice square surrounded by renaissance and art nouveau buildings. In the middle of the square, there is St. Bartholomew's church (see another tip). On its lower end, Plzen's splendid town hall is located. Sometimes, Namesti Republiky houses handicraft markets.
Unfortunately, parts of the square are under construction at the moment so that you won't be able to enjoy its full beauty unhindered.
