What to See in Arhus?

by zuriga

Out of the blue, it seems we will be going to Arhus, Denmark on business. I'd love some ideas of what's important to see there, best places for meals etc. I'm going to try and convince the boss we need to stay at least 2 days!

There should be plenty to see in Århus.

The Cathedral is one of the biggest gothic redbrick/backstein churches in Nothern Europe. It also has some fantastic middleage frescos.

The Mosgaard archeological museum houses the Grauballe man - an ironage bogman/mummy who was unfortunate enough to have his throut slit and trown a bog some 2000 years ago.

The brand new Aros art museum is also worth a visit. They have a good collection of modern and contemporary Danish art and sometimes also some really good shifting exhibitions. The building is also quite impressive.

Den Gamle By (the old city) old townhouses from all over the country torn down and re-build in the middle of the 20th century.

Malling and Schmidt is probably the most interesting restaurant. So called New Nordic cuisine. Traditionally Nordic dishes re-invented. Fantastic experience but also quite pricy. Michellin class if their reviewers ventured outside Cph.

The same people also have the less pretentious Nordisk Spisehus.

A favourite of my family is the Sct. Oluf, Mejlgade 33. The service can somtime be a bit eccentric but the food is always excellent and the prices very reasonalbly!

Hope you enjoy Århus!

Travel Tips for Århus

You must see the wonderful...

You must see the wonderful forest that is right in the city of Aarhus. To walk through in the summer is quite a thrill for anyone, especially a Texan like me!! I remember well the shopping in the walking streets. Very peaceful, not to mention wonderful shopping!!

a little beautiful street

by elsebeth

This street is called M?llestien and is located close to the library and Aaboulevarden. Its an old street with cute little houses, and there are some small shops in the houses. Ive taken this pic the other day in the beautiful snow.

A must for a trip to Arhus...

by emrekarasahin

I had to survive a snowstorm in Aarhus in 13 th July in 1988. It was freezing cold also.
Make sure you have warm clothing and umbrella even if you are travelling in summer, as well as shorts. insect repellants may be necessary, sometimes there are many small flies around. supplies are quite expensive in Denmark in general.. Buy them in Germany if possible.

Packing List

Dont panic, there is nothing wrong with your eyes. This picture is taken with the help of an infrared camera. You can see how Frans is trying to find the leeck of pure ammonia (the white smoke coming his way) inside the container.

This is also a practical test for the special air you need as a fireman. They had to climb, and snake and jump and all kind of funny things, but it wasnt that bad if you see this eyes through the mask....they are still laughing!
