Is Bornholm too far for a day trip?

Re: activities

Transport is about 3 hours each way (Train from Copenhagen to Ystad and then catamaran ferry to Bornholm). The last ferry of the day departs Bornholm 17:15.

It is doable as a day trip, but most will be transport. Better stay 1 or 2 nights on Bornholm.

Travel Tips for Bornholm

Toilets at Bornholm

by Andreja86

Locally in Denmark there is often discussions about the fact that there are only few public toilets. This is not the case at Bornholm. I have been to Bornholm plenty of times and a few times with my grandparents. Ofcause they was more in the need of toilets than I was and then we began to discus the numbers of toilets at Bornholm.

It seems to me that there is at least 2 different public toilets in every city on the coast. There are often good posting of signs but as a rule there is a toilet at the habour.
Even in some nature areas there will be a toilet in the middle of nowere. This is due to the fact that there are many tourist who cycle around Bornholm. There is also many old germans at Bornholm and therefore I can highly recommend to go there even if you have any sort of problems.

You can use this map to find the closest toilet:

Krølle Bølle

by metteks

Bornholm is home to Krølle Bølle, a beloved troll. Krølle-Bølle and his family are the creation of Ludvig Mahler, in 1943, as a gift to his son that Christmas. It was first published in 1946, and Krølle-Bølle has gone on to become synonomous with his home island.

According to the tale, Krølle-Bølle lives underneath the hill Langebjerg, which opens up every night at midnight, when the owl calls out three times. Pushed by his father, Krølle-Bølle must spend the night trawling the island, making mischief wherever he goes, knowing that should he meet with any real trouble, he need only shout out the magic words, 'bobbarækus filiækus' and his fearsome enemy will immediately become scared and run away. In this way he wreaks innocent, childish havoc over the whole of Bornholm, protected by his father's charmed words. On Bornholm you will see signs with Krølle Bølle many places. You can buy Krølle Bøll ice cream, ceramic statues of Krølle Bølle and a wide range of mercandice. Whether you like this weird little caracter or not, the ice cream still is nice.

Ronne

by Tasia

Since the all ferries arrive to a small town Ronne, I suggest beginning with exploring its area. After cycling around the whole island I can admit that villages quite similar to each other, but still for me they all looked very funny. Small houses, colored mostly with yellow, red colors small windows with fabulous small statues on the window sills give you feelings that you got in the middle centuries.

horse carriage trip

by elsebeth

me my brother and father went on a hosecarriage trip there when I was quite young.
I really loved horses back then so it was a dream holiday for me. It was for a whole week and its was such a cool experience.
the horse was called Musse and was a norwegian pony.
me and my dad went swimming in the ocean despite the fact that it was very cold but we wanted to show the other that we werent afraid of the cold . HA!
