Helsingor - Kronborg
by Kuznetsov_Sergey
The name "Helsingor" is known to each cultural person. There is a castle of "Danish prince" Hamlet .
The true name of the castle - Kronborg ("Fist"). It is not the most magnificent castle in Denmark, but it is considered one of the best samples of the Renaissance.
It was under construction as a powerful fortress on border with Sweden. The garrison of a fortress was obliged to raise so-called "Danish tax" from all ships which were passed on the Oresund passage.

Helsingor (English Elsinore) is a town and seaport, eastern Denmark, in Frederiksborg County, Sjelland (Zealand), near Copenhagen. Helsingor is known for its gorgeous Royal Kronborg Castle. Cosy and calm Danish town for to spend a day there.

Many years ago Danes possessed the territory far reached for present borders of the kingdom. But today distant descendants of Vikings are hardly excited with imperial romanticism or appeals like "returning of the primordial grounds".
They have done fighting in the past in plenty, grasping another's grounds and losing their own. Eventually Danes have acquired the main lesson: it is better to live peacefully, being full up and quiet on the small native land, than to multiply problems and to shed blood, infinitely expanding borders.

Enroute to Helsingor, Liz and I popped into this art museum since we were a little tired of looking at castles. It was a refreshing break from looking at old tapestries, I assure you.

Take the air on the Quay with a bit of mythology.

The sight of boats, large and small, entering and leaving a port is always of interest, perhaps particularly to island people who are never to far away from the coast.
Here on a late September afternoon there was little activity a strong breeze was blowing and then we came to more statuary ! Another example of the work of Rudolph Tegner referred to in my tip about Hamlet and Ophelia.
This seemed to be a mythological subject and, after much examination, we agreed it must be Hercules battling with Hydra.. A strong, powerful picture of the story is conveyed.
Later, as we were driving away from the town we spotted more statuary - a Fountain topped by three or four ballerinas, sculpted with the delicacy and tenderness of Degas.
I would never have guessed it was in fact another Tegner.
