Faaborg
by BarbieGirl
Faaborg is a city in central Denmark, located in Faaborg municipality on the island of Funen.
Faaborg is first mentioned in a document, located in the national archive in Paris, dated June 25, 1229. It is a gift document that gives Faaborg to Valdemar II of Denmark's daughter in law, as a morning present. It is mentioned as a castle, so it must have existed before this date. However the date has been used as the birth date of Faaborg and thus the city celebrated its 775 birthday in 2004. Nearby are located Egeskov Castle, Hvedholm Manor and Horne Church.
The area around HC Andersen Hus (museum)
by ATLC
About 5 minutes walk from the Town Hall, we finally arrived at the HC Andersen museum. Which was in fact almost full circle to the point where we started. The museum itself is a modern building, ground level and so accessible for wheelchairs and such. The cloack room and toilets are downstairs but there's an elevator.
See for visitor's info my tip in the section Things To Do.
St. Knud's church (2)
by ATLC
First thing that strikes you inside the church is the high, white interior. The Bishop of Odense began converting the church (the original one was burned down in 1247) to its present day Gothic splendour.
The second thing that strikes you is the raised altar, unusual for its significant height.
St. Knuds church - the vault with King Knud
by ATLC
It seems the clergy do not like people to come close to the remains of King Knud or make photo's. An amusing story is told here.
I did not make a photo of the remains of King Knud but you can find a photo here.
Vintapperstræde
by Obak81
This narrow passage connects Vestergade with Slotsgade, and several other passages that intersect Vintapperstæde make it possible to use the passage as a shortcut between Vestergade and Kongensgade and other parts of the city center.
The passage is filled with restaurants, bars, hairdressers etc.
