Odense
by BarbieGirl
As was the case with many other Danish market towns, towards the end of the 1800s (1880-83) Odense built a new Town Hall, designed by architects J.D. Herholdt and C. Lendorf and partially inspired by the Town Hall of Siena in northern Italy. This was later extended to the east to the designs of architect B. Helweg Møller, an extension opened on the 150th birthday of the town’s favourite son, Hans Christian Andersen – the 2 April 1955. The Town Hall was renovated between 2003-2005 ready for the celebrations of the bicentenary of Hans Christian Andersen to start – of course - on the same day, 2 April, 2005.
A little walk through Odense
by ATLC
Starting from HC Andersen hotel, we walked about an hour with a guide through the old part of Odense. There are many sculpures on the streets in Odense. Of course there's Andersen himself but also sculptures that were inspired by his stories.

I was amazed at the scope of HCA's talents. In the library were his books, translated into most languages of the world. Showcases full of paper cuttings, walls filled with drawings. And of course an explanation of his life in photo's, objects and texts.
Vollsmose - 70 different nationalities!
by Obak81
Vollsmose is perhaps the best know part of Odense nationwide. Unfortunately much of the media attention has been negative and focusing on violent episodes in the area.
In my view Vollsmose however is much more than is portrayed in the news. With plus 70 nationalities living in a relatively small area, Vollsmose is also the part of town which is most alive. Especially the large number of different immigrants and the large number of young people contribute to Vollsmose having a different feel than the rest of town.

The station is located some 3-4 km from OBC and is located between Odense University Hospital and Odense Zoo. There is a platform and a ticket vending machine. Access to the station from the O2 circular road by taking the stairs.
Trains go to Odense (OBC) and in the direction of Svendborg. No car parking is possible right by the station, but some options exist in the nearby area.
It takes 4 minutes to get to OBC.
