Camping pass: A valid camping card is required at all Danish camping grounds. On arrival at a campsite you will be asked to complete an order form which provides the basis for issuing your camping card. It is important that the form is completed correctly and is easy to read. A new camping card costs aboput DKK 80 (Eur 12) and is valid for the current calendar year.
If you only camp occasionally and just need to stay a single night, you may purchase a transit card which is valid until the following day, only. The price for the transit card is DKK 20,00 (Eur 3) for singles and families.
CAMPING CARD SCANDINAVIA are valid in our neighbouring countries of NORWAY, SWEDEN and FINLAND. Likewise, Danish camping grounds accept camping cards from Norway, Sweden and Finland. Campingcard International is valid for Danish and foreign camping grounds

yuo have more than 100 youth hostels in denmark and they are mostly very modern and have private rooms as well as dormitory accomodation.
some of them has a standdard so high that they in reality have become more hotels than hostels.
they are very suitable for both young independant travellers as well as families.

cheap and very family friendly in general.

Back in 1964 we had spent our first vacation in Danmark and we only went to camping-sites like the one in Arhus, that you may see on my old pics. At that time my parents were travelling with me and my 4 brothers in that small Ford Cortina with a small trailer. 2 grownups in front and 5 children on the backseat of that small car and living in 2 tents was a lot of fun for us children, but certainly not for our parents.
All of these pics are scanned from a super-8-movie, sorry for the bad quality.

In 2005 I returned with my mother to the large camping-site of Arhus and found it even better, with plenty of huts to be rented (BUT we should have booked them in advance). Camping is well organized in Arhus with great recreation-areas, only the beach is not very sandy, but rather rough gravel.
Camping is certainly a good alternative to the expensive hotels in Arhus. The only affordable hotels used to be GET IN and SLEEP IN.

This building dates back to 1546, it was a school, later a prison and nowadays it is a great hotel ! This place is not really a cheap hotel, in fact it is quite expensive like most of the hotels in Danmark, but it is funny to sleep in the old prison-cells and wake up in the morning and be able to step out again after a great breakfast-buffet !

A great architect has changed the old prison-interio into a modern hotel-room, some with private bathroom, most of them with the facilities on the corridor, like in the real prison...

Hotelprices are quite high in Danmark and so we were lucky to find this place, when I came to Arhus with my mother in 2002 : GET IN is some kind of a student-hotel and fortunately it is rather centrally located close to the openair-museum "Gammle By" and to the ringroad of Arhus. You enter the hotel through a big hall with a glass-roof after you have checked in at the tiny reception. Most rooms are on the same level as the entrance and some of them will be entered through seperate doors in the courtyard. My mother had a double-room on the ground-floor, with the door and the only small window faceing the courtyard. There you may take one of the many chairs and sit in front of your room in the summer.

We were happy to pay just 300 DKR for a single-room for my mother, breakfast included. You simply have to "oversee" the strange kind of constructions you will realize all over the place : Enlarge my main picture and see the strange constructions of pipes in the bathroom...
Everything is very clean, it simply seems to be very expensive to get professionals to do the constructions, so they seem to have constructed it in their very own style...
Breakfast was fine as well, and included in the price !
I slept in my motorhome just outside of the Get Inn at a large car-parking free of charge and with a lot of spaces.

A large campground with mostly caravans. A lot of people mainly from Germany and Holland come back every year so they leave their caravans on the site all year. Also log cabins are available for rent.

No swimming pool, but the campground is right next to a beach. Campground has a shop, gift shop and a games/ TV room and also a mini golf course

From the beach you can fish.

This is an International Campground with the owners speaking Danish, German English and probably a bit of Dutch too.

Yes this is the graceful life -- Well I am a very frequent traveler and have high expectations in a hotel that is billed as the best in an area as the Royal was. Happy to say it meet all of them, this is one assume place, wonderful warm staff, beautiful rooms posh but warm and cozy at the same time. The small details like heated floors, gilded baths mixed with a warm helpful smile were winning ones. I walked in after leaving my care outside at a “Danish parking meter” ask what do I do with my car - answer with a wide welcome smile welcome and we will take care of that for you. The place has beautiful original art and very stylish tasteful furniture. yup a real 4 star place in my eyes that will be a place that stands out and I remember. Oh did I tell you this place was built in 1838 and has the huge rooms of that time of graceful living and the elevator was built in 1903 the oldest in that part of Europe.

I really liked the fact that it is right downtown in the the Latin Quarter next to the huge Arhus Lutheran Cathedral and all the central historic areas are in walking distance with lots of great restaurants and shopping near by as well.

The Hotel's website states, "A cozy, carefully modernized hotel with a distinguished atmosphere and
    focus on personal service."

I'm happy to say that this statement in not an exaggeration in anyway.

The hotel was conveniently located, across the street from the train station and near the bus station which has a direct connection to the airport.

Also it stood just at the threshold of the city center and within easy walking distance to the "Jomfru Ane Gade," the entertainment street and all it's night life.

Of course, I didn't actually stay at this hotel, but I've learned that it is quite simple to experience the ambience of such a place by spending time in it's restaurants. Thus, I took breakfast here and was pleased with the service, the decor and the food.

This is a four star hotel and the prices are reasonable:

Single Rooms with a bath, $129.00 (885 DKK)
Double Rooms With bath, $144.00 (950 DKK
    Suiter $159.00(1090DKK) to $188.00 (1290 DKK)

    All weather in Bornholm is...

All weather in Bornholm is camping weather. You will find well-equipped, modern camping sites dispersed all over Bornholm and all of them are continually being expanded to meet visitors requirements for outdoor comfort.
Before you start, visit Velkomstcenter (Turistinformation) in Ronne. You will get there useful information about hotels, campsites, youth hostels and the cheapest campings on the island. It is possible to take some maps and brochures for free, if you need it. They will also tell you where you can rent a bike, scooter or a car.
The cheapest campings, were we lived, cost usually 15 DKK per night + 5 DKK for a shower (cold). Warm shower costs about 15 DKK. These are so called – primitive campings, where you live in tents.Usually used by cyclists.
