Copenhagen Day Trips

by bstepien

My wife and I will be in Copengagen in just a few days. What are the best day trips?

Re: Copenhagen Day Trips

by ValbyDK

Hi, here are some options for day trips from Copenhagen:

Roskilde with the Roskilde Cathedral and the Viking Museum
Helsingør with Kronborg Castle
Hillerød with Frederiksborg Castle
Dragør (an old picturesque fishing village)

Sweden is also an option and Lund, Malmø or Helsingborg are very easy to reach from Copenhagen.

Check out the cities here on VT. Many members have great pages...

Hi
Like Valby, I recommend Elsinor - the castle is well worth a visit, and I gather the Art Museum is good too (although it was closed when I visited, some time ago)

I am going in August and have found this which looks like very good fun... it is a couple of hours as opposed to a day but it is a little different...

Travel Tips for Copenhagen

Enjoy the snow!

by melow

Visit as many restuarants as you can! I love food and was absolutely impressed by the variety! Make sure u taste the pastries...they're second to none! The chocolate cakes are amazing! The ice cream is real creamy! The pork is lovely! The chocolates are rich! Ahhh suddenly am hungry! U cant afford to miss the sea food...its divine! Well I come from a tropical country, the skies are always blue and its summer all year round! The snow in Copenhagen was something different... -10 degrees was something I'd never experienced! I'd never worn so much clothing on a single day and still felt cold! But the whole experience was lovely I could do it again and again and again! I hope to visit again!

The Metro

by HORSCHECK

In Copenhagen one of Europe's most modern Metro systems is under construction. It is planned to be finished in 2005. Some lines are already in operation and link parts of the city.
The fully-automatic trains are driver less and offer the chance to sit just in the front of the train and enjoy the view of the tubes. The modern stations are equipped with glass pyramids which illuminate the station areas with natural light.

Take a walking tour around the city. I more or less followed the suggested routing in the Lonely Planet Guidebook. Parts of the city which I explored in my 6 hour tour are the City Centre, the Latin Quarter, and Christianshavn. Statue of Bishop Absalon (founder of Copenhagen 1167)in Hojbro Plads Square.

Spires of Copenhagen - Vor Frelsers Kirke

by yooperprof

Vor Frelsers Kirke has a spire that it looks like it might have been designed by Santiago Calatrava! (Calatrava's "twisting skyscraper" is just across the sound in Malmö.) It was designed in the middle of the 18th century by architect Lauritz de Thurah, who himself copied the design from a church in Rome, St. Ivo's.

Food in supermarkets

by ginte

If you are in Copenhagen or in any city of Denmark for more than just several days or even living there for a while, you'll need food shops. If you are on the low budget Netto (with yellow dog sign), Aldi, Fakta is for you. There is also Dog Netto (with blue dog sign) which opens later than others and works later also (until 10 p.m.). A great choise when all food shops are already closed. In these shops you'll find the lowest prices for the food, although the variety of it is not always big. For the variety you can choose Irma or Fotex, but the prices there are higher.
