I traveled with my 2-1/2 yr old son. The hotel does not look posh and don't expect proters to carry your luggage. The lift is narrow and the lobby is also cramped. The staff are very cordial and actually they sent a person to carry my luggage to the adjacent building where my room was. The room is decent sized without A/C - so quite hot in mid-July. The bathroom is small.
Unique Quality: The location is good, near the Vesterbro bust stop. There is a bus that directly goes to the Little Mermaid from there. Also, quite a few grocery stores / supermarkets are there in the area.

Cosy hotel
The location of a hotel is good, quite close to the center, Tivoli and a park. The rooms in the hotel are small, but I liked the style they are furnished. Breakfast at this hotel was probably the best from all the hotels I have been. Especially I liked different kinds of bread and fresh apples. In general this is a nice place to stay at.

Up Close and Personal
Stayed here for a romantic weekend and the hotel and the location is just perfect for that. It's a small hotel in a french colonial style where "welcome" really means Welcome and "home made" really means home made. Don't let it scare you that the dentist share the same entrance and stair case. When you get upstairs you'll probably just find it charming. The breakfast is a typical Danish one, but the best part is the home made or ecological bread, pastry and jelly and the fresh juice. There's a small reception and a brakfast/living room where there's always tea and coffee, the daily papers, magazines and puzzels. If you don't want a hot drink they just might offer a soda or something else of your liking (I got candy). All rooms have all facilities and the fact that there's no restaurant really doesn't matter. The up & coming Vesterbro area's got it all. Would definetely recommend it to couples or friends travelling together and to those who want to stay away from the tourist crowd.
Unique Quality: The hospitality and warmth here is really uniqe and the Vesterbro area has become very trendy with a lot of small cafes, bars and restaurants and besides: both Tivoli and the DGI Byen sports/spa/culture centre is nearby.

We stayed at the Hotel Guldsmeden for two nights in early December. We had a room in the Annex, which was lovely and quiet. The bed was extremely comfortable! Breakfast was a highlight - fantastic bread, pastries and other continental items, not to mention amazing organic jam. Make sure you get there outside 'peak' time if the hotel is full.
The location is very convenient, a short walk to the Tivoli, Stroget and many restaurants in the area (that staff are happy to recommend). The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Lovely respite in busy Copenhagen

We stayed at Hotel Guldsmeden the week of September 19. At the suggestion of a previous TripAdvisor review we requested a quiet room away from the front of the building. Upon arrival we were given a room in the "Annex" which did not live up to our expectaions, having viewed some photos of Guldsmeden prior to our trip. The more recent Annex features somewhat "typical" hotel rooms with 8 foot ceilings. We found the room underwhelming. We asked to see a similarly priced double room on the front of the building which was wonderful - soaring celings, tall windows flooding the room with light, a wonderful sense of European charm. Although we were concerned about noise prior to arrival, our room on the front of the building (third floor) was very quiet. With the windows latched in the evening, noise was never a problem. The organic breakfast was wonderful and frequently replenished. The staff friendly, kind and eager to please. Not a luxury chain hotel, Hotel Guldsmeden is a small hotel for the traveller looking for something "a little different". Guldsmeden has a sort of Bohemian vibe which we found delightful. If we've one complaint, the location is a few blocks from the City Center (Stroget, etc) so there's a brief walk up Vestrobrogade to many of the areas of interest. Copenhagen is small and easily explored on foot or by bike (Guldsmeden has bike rentals available to guests). We would definately return to Hotel Guldsmeden.
What a load of nonsense

I have just returned from a visit to the Hotel Guldsmeden and have to disagree most strongly with the previous reviewer. The hotel itself was outstanding- friendly, well-run, beautifully clean and nothing was too much bother. As for its location - it was 5 minutes from central station, right opposite the city museum and a short walk from beautiful parkland areas aound the summer palaces. True the 'touristy' places were the other side of central station but it was also in an area of charming, very reasonably priced restaurants. Because of its location our visit was more enjoyable - away from crowded, rip-off toursity spots. My advice if you want a great place to stay and you can still manage some gentle strolls is to stay here.
Great Choice For Copenhagen

Stayed at the Guldsmeden pre cruise based on reviews seen here and was very happy. Great family style hotel within walking distance of all of the sights. Our room was in the annex and was a very quiet haven after a day sightseeing. Room wasn't ready when we arrived but the staff offered us a glass of wine in the dining room while we waited. Breakfast was fantastic. Reception area and elevator are rather small but it all adds to the charm. A great hotel in a great city.
Nice rooms, nice staff, little else.

Inconvenient location (without a bike) on one of Copenhagen's busiest streets, though around the corner from the city's grandest residential boulevard. Note that the majority of rooms are in a modern annex. They are quiet and good condition and are quite comfortable, but are small and have little charm. There are no hotel services. No lobby, but there is a breakfast room you can sit in all day. Young staff are limited as an informational resource. I paid about $190 with tax on Expedia. This would be a bad value in most places, though not necessarily in Copenhagen. Beware of rooms facing the main street due to noise. Bikes available for rent.

Hi:
I will be staying at Carlton Hotel Guldsmeden on 06 Jul and will take a taxi to the Cruise Terminal for Costa Cruises. How much time and money it will take by a
taxi ?

count on around 150 danish kroner (roughly 30 us dollars) and the ride will take you around 20 minutes.
