Nice place with good coffee...
We were told, that this is one of the cheapest possibility to spend a night or two...
Nothing special though, but tidy, calm and a good starting- point to see a lot of the main attractions of Kobenhavn by food !

This is really about the day I arrived in Copenhagen. The 'direct train' from Sweden ended up stopping short and I got on the wrong connection sending me back the way I had come. Had to get off again and find another train......it was a slow one. Arriving eventually at Copenhagen main station I remembered I had read somewhere that the no.19 bus stopped just outside and would take me to the hostel. It was raining. Bus stops from 1 to 17 but no number 19. Into the station bar for a Carlsberg and info. 19 bus stop just up the road. Found it....waited.....bus arrived but driver told me I was on the wrong side of the road, wrong direction. Crossed the wide busy road...still raining. Found stop. Waited in queque. Asked driver how much.....he laughs and says I'd be better off walking, it's just up the road. Walked in the rain with cheap bag straps cutting into wet knuckle white hands. Spotted Irish Pub on the way and promised myself a visit a.s.a.p. Eventually standing dripping wet at desk in hostel. I'm just slightly short of Danish cash and sorry we don't accept credit cards but there's an atm just back the road. I'm laughing (crying) now because this is too much. Out again in rain but get it sorted out. Hostel is fine. After drying off and ditching bag went to 'Irish Pub'. It's empty, except for Eleona who's behind the bar. After awhile she tells me "No no it used to be Irish bar but he had to sell out" Anyway it's near hostel and cheapest beer in Copenhagen I could find with a weird billiard table
This place seems like a throw-back to youth hostels of the 1970s - or so it seems. I stayed in the big 64 bed dorm because it was 1) cheap and 2) the only room available. In this hostel you have to pay for most things such as internet (free wifi) and your sheets/pillow. There seems to be a hostel bed shortage in Copenhagen, so if you have no other alternative try here. On the plus side it is very close to the train station and has good kitchen facilities.
City public hostel is run by a youth club that organises activities and does social work in Copenhagen most of the year, but during the summer months the place is turned in to a hostel.
The sleeping quarters are pretty crappy to be honest, with dorms with up to 50 beds, but the place is extremely friendly with very helpful staff and that has made the place a popular backpacker hangout for many years.
It´s located in the part of Copenhagen called Vesterbro, which has a very variety of bars and cafes and you have a nice little art cinema across the road from the hostel.
If you are young and looking for a good social scene then i would recommend this place.
Unique Quality: The staff makes the place.
They are very helpful and backpacker minded.
I have great memories of this hostel. We met two great Canadian guys in here, and we toured the city with them. Every afternoon we would sit on the patio and play cards, and then go out for the night. Great place to stay, cheap, and friendly.
City Public Hostel (at Absalonsgade 8, www.city-public-hostel.dk)is a pretty good hostel and probably the most central, about a 10 minute walk from Central station. The dorms range from 8 to 60 bed!!! It costs 130KR(13GBP) for a 8 bed dorm. Brekafast is 20 KR. They have all the facilites you need, with a bbq area outside. It was pretty quiet when i was there but iäd imagine pretty good when its heaving. They also sell beer behind reception, but be warned, its nats ***, only 2,6%!
I am going to stay at this place after reading the reviews that it is the most central in the town and most economical if your pockets are not too long. For a single bed accommodation per day stay, it is 130 DKK without breakfast and 150 DKK if you want breakfast to be included. Common Restrooms and Bring your own Linen.
Unique Quality: Most Economical, Centrally located and 10 min walk to downtown.
City public hostel : Open all day , 120 Dk person/night whit breakfast
Unique Quality: Absalongsgade 8, 10 minutes of the station by foot

BELÆGNINGEN
"Hostel in Avedørelejren"
Hi
I'm visitng copenhagen in late august. Some of the reviews of this hostel sound good.Inexpensive, clean, friendly.
What I would like to know is about the transport situation.
I realise busues might be infrequent as 1/2 hourly...but late would buses run..1 or 2 in the morning?I've also read that the rail station is only a km away...Is that the main railway station ?
thanks
kikili
it's not the main railway station but a subway atstion.
the place is really out of the way compared to other hostels, but if you are a movie fan then it's an interesting place to stay.
