late night eating in Copenhagen

by ian1917

Hi our flight into Copenhagen arrives at 10pm. Is there anywhere good value we can dine late at night, or at least get a nice quality pizza or burger? I have heard Rio Bravo (bad reports) and Riz Raz (good reports) open late. Are they any good?

I will have teenagers with me so cannot go to anywhere they don't let in young people like a night club. Thanks.

Hi, Rizraz is VERY good.

Their buffet is extensive, plenty of options & good service :-)

Both locals & visitors like this place. They have two branches. And certainly extrelmely good value.

Pizzas are on offer in the buffet!!

I agree with the Riz Raz idea. I ate there during a trip to Copenhagen in October and thought the buffet was unusually good. There was a huge assortment of things to eat. I noticed quite a few families there, so I think it would be fine for teenagers.. and there is pizza as mentioned above.

Late night eating for me just has to be a Kebab and in CPH Kebabish at Vesterbrogade 13 suited me fine. Good meaty kebabs (unfortunately not very greasy ;-( ) and swift friendly service. The eat-in area is quite extensive with simple formica tables and so it's all no-thrills just very good value for money. As well as kebabs they also do curries and a few other bits and bobs.

It's quite easy to find being located about 400 yards along the main drag to your left once you've cleared Central Station and is on the corner with Helgolandsgade.

I must say that i am not aware if Riz Raz is open that late, but if it is the it´s for sure a good choice and the prices there are good for Copenhagen standards.
Be ware that there are 2 Riz Raz in central Copenhagen, but they are equally good.

Rio Bravo is known for having the kitchen open till 3am in the morning, so you can for sure eat there.
I have eaten there a couple of times myself and while it´s not a gastronomic wonder it´s ok for one night i think.
Certainly better than not eating.
It is more pricey than Riz Raz though, so chose that if it is open.

If you don't want to spend the time looking for a sit-down meal then there's always the Seven-Elevens which do cheap take-away stuff like pizza, burgers, hot pastries etc. There's plenty of these in the immediate vicinity of Central station and are open until very late (and some 24hrs). Just get a bagful of stuff and take it with you to your hotel.

Thanks everyone very helpful - will try for Riz Raz and if no joy then find a Seven-Eleven which is a good tip as I'm pretty there's a microwave in the room where we're staying.

Plus 7-11s have micros to heat certain items too, eg paninis :-)

Travel Tips for Copenhagen

Happiest people on the planet - Danes

by GirlUpNorth

Just as a general note I'd like to say that Danish people are probably the nicest and friendliest people I've met in Europe so far! They serve customers with a smile and everywhere we went there were a lot of nice people who were helpful too. I've heard that Danish football maniacs are called "roligans" instead of "hooligans" (rolig meaning fun/funny/happy), and I can see it being true. And I also believe the fact that Danish people are the happiest people on the planet! :)

The Secret Garden

by Marpessa

This for me was a quiet little get-away in a busy city centre. It was like walking into a secret garden. It is actually the library gardens, which is a beautiful spot. It has a lovely fountain, with ducks paddling around, large trees, flowers and the stunning red-brick library.

There is a statue here of the Danish philosopher Soren Kierkegaard. Kierkegaard is known as the 'father of existentialism'. (Existentialism is a popular philosophical movement, where life is not so much of the biology of a human being, but of the key characteristics, feelings of a person, like: freedom, fear, consciousness of existing and awareness of death).

To me these gardens seemed to be like a little haven. And while a lot of people (particularly locals) are probably aware of these gardens, it still felt like a secret garden to me, that not a lot of people knew about.

Directions
An entrance to the gardens can be found on the South-East side of Christiansborg Slot.

Expensive to party, pre-drink if you go club...

Winter: Cathedrals and City center architecture, Strogget (walking street) from one end to other, ice skating ring in Kongen's nu torv (king's new square).

Summer: Tivoli, Baggen (25 minutes north, and better than Tivoli, has roller coasters) amusement park, BEACHES. Well-dressed, healthy, educated, beautiful people that all speak english and are very nice and helpful.

Before going to Copenhagen...

by Joana

Before going to Copenhagen everybody I talked to told me that they had loved the city but the mermaid was a disapointment. Ok, it may be smaller than we think but that's no reason to criticise her. I think it is worth to see it. The only thing i could think about after I saw it was that it must be so sad to wait for something that will never come back... ok, i have to face, I got a little carried away by the story... but it's such a pretty story.
See it if you can but not on a cruise, you'll end up not seeing her at all because the boat doesn't go near her and as I said, it's a little small.

Skating in Kongens Nytorv

by satara

The good thing of coming in winter to Copenhagen is that you can find a perfect open air skating rink just in the center of the city. While in summer people walk and sit around at that place (I suppose they do so, I've never seen myself), in winter families with kids come to enjoy winter sports here.. Very slippery.. Even I was only watching.. but still.. very slippery..:)
