Comfortable, friendly, conveniently located.

Great (4.0 of 5.0 stars)

Copenhagen, like many European capital cities, is not cheap. I booked the Hotel du Nord through www.booking.com and thought it offered me very good value for the price I paid.

The hotel is in a huge 1800s building just a couple of minutes' walk from Copenhagen's central station (15 minutes by direct train from the airport) and about the same to Tivoli. Copenhagen does not have a huge historical centre so I was able to walk from the hotel to all the places I wanted to visit. There are lots and lots of places to eat within 5 minutes' walk, with a wide range of cuisines represented.

There isn't a huge amount of traffic in the immediate area, so noise is pretty minimal. The hotel is on the edge of what has traditionally been Copenhagen's red-light district. Although I saw one or two ladies hanging around street corners in the evenings, and there are a few dubious clubs and shops nearby, I (solo middle-aged female traveller) never felt in the least bit unsafe. Copenhagen struck me as a very safe city indeed. I'm sure the location can be noisy at times...for example, one evening there was a group of noisy guests at the hotel restaurant behind the Hotel du Nord....but that applies to all city-centre hotels. And I always use ear-plugs anyway.

My single room was right at the top on the 5th floor, at the back of the hotel with a view of the courtyards and rear of all the adjoining buildings...and almost directly into some rooms in another hotel, which could have been interesting (but wasn't). :-) It was simply decorated and very clean, with a comfortable bed, hanging and shelf space, desk, safe, armchair and table, TV and coffee/tea making facilities. The bathroom had a tub as well as shower, with plenty of hot water available, although only soap and shampoo were provided (no biggie as I always bring my own). Wifi is free and efficient.

I've seen moans from other guests about the small breakfast room. When I checked-in I was told that 0830-0930 were the busiest times for breakfast and so I made a point of having my breakfast earlier...and thus had no problems at all. The coffee (from a machine) was very good, there were cereals, bread and rolls, juices, cold meats and cheese, slices of cucumber, radish etc, yoghurt, boiled eggs, preserves, pastries...pretty much what you'd expect from any European hotel which offers a 'continental breakfast' and more than enough to satisfy me.

I found all the staff to be very friendly, helpful and pleasant with excellent English. There is a lift, and a computer for guest use, although its printer was not working when I visited. There was, however, no problem in emailing my boarding pass to reception so they could print it out.

This is a good-value hotel, for Copenhagen, in an excellent location. Recommended.

Directions: A couple of minutes' walk to the west of Copenhagen central station.

Stayed at this hotel for 3 nights and it was a lovely stay. The hotel is very close to the main train station, the staff was extremely nice, breakfast was also very good in European standards. I had a single room, was always clean, with a kettle and coffee and tea. Wi Fi was very very good.

not the best area in town

I stayed at the Hotel du Nord, which is neither great nor disgusting. It's very near the station, which is a plus, but the area is a red-light area, although there are many hotels, some even expensive.
