by Redang Excellent, it's all I can say. They are renovating the hotel (they plan to finish by April '07), but the task made so far is fantastic. PS: I think they have finished it.
Copenhagen is not a cheap city, however, this hotel offers good rates, lower than others, and I think offering more, breakfast included. They also have private parking. Very nice and friendly staff. Single room: 100 $ (80 €) per night, B&B (Sep. '06). | Hotel Twentyseven Copenhagen: Stylish, but a mixed experience

This recently renovated, stylish hotel is an example of something that often strikes me in Copenhagen: a strong desire to appear really, really cool and cosmopolitan to the world, even to the point of being pretentious or just ridiculous. As, for example, in this hotel's bizarre automated wine tasting bar, where you can get an overpriced sip of wine using a chip card on a sort of vending machine. We stayed there for just one night in February. Our room was modern and clean, but very small for two persons - there's hardly enough space to put your suitcases. Fast WLAN Internet access is included in the price. Mattresses were on the soft side, but still OK. The major annoyance was noise: the loud bathroom ventilation which cannot be switched off (but muffled with some creative use of toilet paper), the noise from adjacent rooms, and especially the thin windows that provide almost no protection from street noise (I suspect this will be even more annoying in summer). Apparently the hotel is aware of the problem: every guest gets a complimentary set of earplugs...! The breakfast buffet was fine. Hotel staff was generally friendly, but appeared overwhelmed and even a bit clumsy sometimes, even though the place was far from fully occupied. The location is very central, with the entire inner city in easy walking distance.
Location, stylish interior. Theme: HotelPrice: US$120-180 » Currency ConverterComparison: more expensive than averagePhone: 00 45 7027 5627Directions: Close to the city hall (raadhus), in walking distance to the central railway station (hovedbanegarden).Website: www.hotel27.dk/

by Sjalen This hotel used to be the Le Meridien Mermaid hotel but since autumn 2005 it has become Hotel 27, named after the street number. We booked it as a last minute deal when we realised we wouldn't be bothered crossing the bridge after a late night VT meeting and I knew nothing about this brand new place then. It turned out to be a mixed experience. To its defense, it had only just opened, so I can only assume that they will work on some of the paintwork and old furnishings in the (small-ish) rooms as they are quite worn. Preferrably, they also add better glazing to their windows. We stayed on the first floor and were woken up by loud merrymakers on their way home from nightclubs throughout the night, and traffic was also quite noisy at times. Having said that, they have made their reception according to a sleek Scandinavian design with white walls intercepted by cheerfully coloured Danish chairs. Maybe this is something they will pick up on as a running theme. The adjacent John Bull pub which was a favourite amongst expats has closed and something else might come in its stead. Meanwhile, the hotel only has its breakfast restaurant but that was cosy enough and left nothing to complain about. Finally, the service comes with a smile here and the location is great, only a block away from the City Hall and with walking distance to the Central station, parliament and Latin Quarters.
