Morten Fredricksen Guesthouse: The Worst Guesthous
Morten Fredricksen Guesthouse (it is also called Chicken’s Private Pension)
Do you like to hear, with crystal clarity, people straining to use the restroom directly above your head? How about sharing a toilet with the shop next door so you are essentially peeing in a grocery store bathroom? Do you like pipe noise constantly and loudly emanating from the walls? Do you like being greeted with a huge list of things the proprietor doesn’t allow “in my house”? How about being told that there is kitchen access only to find that said access doesn’t include the privilege of heating anything up? How about your nice double being arrange such that the beds can never be closer than 5 feet from each other? How about the beds being too short for someone of average 5’10” height to actually lie down in comfortably? If all these things sound too good to be true, you’ll love Chicken’s Private Pension: the hotel that is basically like staying in a run down hostel, except you can’t use the kitchen.
More fun facts: Our double was a narrow L-shaped room with two very short beds next to the alley. Two of the lights were burnt out. Our trash was not taken out during our five day stay. The alley is very loud as it is full of garbage cans that are picked up in the early morning. Another shared toilet was just outside our room; it was dirty and had a large crack so you could see people inside it. This toilet was shared with the store next door. This toilet was frequently occupied by a lady who worked in the shop next door who came to sit in the bathroom with the door open and talk on her cell phone (because there was an outlet). Folks are allowed to smoke in all the rooms. Two children were washing their hair in the kitchen sink every morning. One of the showers has no door, just a curtain, making it awkward to share with other folks. The other shower leaks onto the floor.
Unique Quality: View of alley with garbage cans and laundry. Kitchen access that actually means "only tea or coffee making allowed." Unpleasant owner.

the best guesthouse I've ever been
Another business trip to Copenhagen... but this time willing to extend the trip for 3 days without spending an arm and a leg. Fortunately at the time I already knew some VTrs who live in Copenhagen or who had stayed there. Maybe I should had keep this gem as secret... but I feel I've to share this finding!
The only "con" was the common bathroom and common kitchen. But not really a "con" as these were spotless clean. Usually I do only stay in ensuite rooms... but in this case, the feeling of being in a real Copenhagen's house and the location were more than worth it the relative nuisance.
The place was nearly empty so I could see most of the rooms, all were lovely. They put me at the biggest room (it may hose 4 people!) even I did pay the single room rate (400 DKK) and I had great views over the street, but not very noisy, it was quite well insulated.
It is located walking distance to most of the museums and main attractions.
You can prepare your own breakfast... but right across the street is a Lagkagehuset's, according Allan (TheView) the best Copenhagen bakeries. With its huge variety of sweets and pastries, good coffee and chocolate... who wants to cook?
Definitely I would like to stay there again!
