Sunday and Monday night in CPH !

by Stu1980

Hi, I'm doing a mini-tour of Scandinavia next week, kick-starting in Copenhagen on Sunday. I've already mapped out plans for during the day but I'm keen to understand if there's anywhere I can expect to enjoy a lively few drinks on Sunday or Monday night??

Any assistance greatly appreciated!!

There is always Nyhavn, close to Kongens Nytorv metro station, but I'm sure cascasiero (excuse me if I spell his VT name wrongly) will pop up and give some real good local tips.

There's some lively pubs on Vesterbro (on the main road head to your right as you come out of Central Station) including the Vesterbro Brewhouse and the Hard Rock Cafe which is as much a pub as it is a cafe. Other interesting places are the Brewpub on Vestergade ( and the Norrebro Brewhouse on Ryesgade (

Sunday nights can be a bit quiet in the city centre but things pick up on Mondays.

Thinking about it you could always go to Fredriksberg on Sunday where the pubs have a more local trade - escapre Carlsberg at Cafe Svejk on Smallegade or have slow beer (literally - you order a bottle of beer whilst you wait for your draught to be poured) at Vinstue 90 (

There's dozens of others too but I somehow managed to forget where they were and what they are called - HIC!

Skol! John.

For sundays: try Rub a dub, Stengade 30 at Norrebro :-)

Travel Tips for Copenhagen

Life immitates life ?

by sourbugger

One of the old advertising posters for 'Wonderful , Wonderful, Copenhagen' features a road being held up by a family of ducks.

When I visited, I was somewhat amused to read a story in a local newspaper. Appartantly, a couple of local geese had the misfortune to get their necks stuck in the railings of a fence near a railway line. Removal of the said birds necessitated (for Health and Saftey issues) the closure of the train line for a period of time.

Life immitates art ? It would be nice sometimes.

P.S it's a pity the trams have disappeared from the city streets, isn't it ?

Square in front of Tivoli

by mydreamquest

Behind where I'm standing when I took this is Stroget which is a walking street where shopping and eating is the thing to do. There are many good restaurants while walking Stroget.

To the left is one entrance into Tivoli and to the left is what appears to be office buildings.

At night, they are nicely lit. Walking inside Tivoli at night.

The best thing about...

The best thing about Copenhagen is the life in its streets. There is always something going on on Strøget, the main pedestrian street, no matter what time of the day it is. You can spend hours just walking around, watching people and checking out the street artists. In the streets off Strøget there are areas where you can find traditional Danish restaurants, pubs, clubs, cafés.. you name it.

An alternative to the German favourites

by sourbugger

Germany has had Christmas markets for a long time. Thousands and thousands of people visit places such as cologne, nuremberg and dusseldorf every year to get that authentic Christmas spirit.

The trend has now spread far and wide. A 'German' christmas market lining a sodden and shabby pedestrianised street in Stoke-on-trent just doesn't deliver the same effect.

Copenhagen does however make a good alternative to the German option.

These are the Christmas highlights in Copenhagen :

* Christmas markets (traditional german type) in the Tivoli and around Nyhavn
* Tivoli gardens are open during december - and with a great Santa to boot
* nice big christmas tree near the townhall, and various events in the square
* the display of Christmas table settings in the Royal Copenhagen store.

If this fails to get you in the Christmas mood, then you must be even more of an old sourbugger than me.

The Lure Blowers

This 1914 bronze statue is situated in Radhuspladsen, between the Palace Hotel and city hall. Their musical horns are 6ft long! The instruments were considered sacred in the Bronze Age and many of them are located in the National Museum.
