Admiral Hotel vs. Radisson Blu Royal Hotel

by golfbuddy2

I'm indecisive as to where to stay in Copenhagen. What are the pros/cons for the Admiral Hotel vs. the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel? I want ease of transportation from the airport to the hotel and from the hotel to the Freeport Cruise Ship terminal. I want the hotel to be in reasonable walking distance to the various tourist sites and restaurants.

>>ease of transportation

Public transport or taxi?

Admiral Hotel is about 700 m walk from nearest metro station (Kongens Nytorv).
Radisson Blu Royal Hotel is about 300 m walk from nearest train station (Copenhagen Central).

Public transport to the cruise terminal in Copenhagen Freeport is a bit more problematic as nearest S-train is 1100 m walk from the terminal and nearest bus stop is 800 m from the terminal.

There are restaurants within walking distance of both hotels.

Tourist sites depends on where you intend to visit.

If I decide to stay at the Admiral Hotel, can I walk from this hotel to Tivoli Park?

You can walk to Tivoli from there, but it's about 30 minutes by foot.
The walk is all through the pedstrian street though, so it's a nice walk.

Radisson Royal is a design icon. It is entirely designed in the late 1950's by Arne Jacobsen, one of the greatest designers in Scandinavia. Not only legendary chairs such as "The Egg" and "The Swan" is designed by Jacobsen for this hotel, but also everything else, from the hotels exterior, furniture and down to the cutlery. Single rooms are very small.
Admiral is located in an 18th century dockhouse, and has a very different feeling.

Travel Tips for Copenhagen

Even before I set foot in Copenhagen, I was longing to arrive in Nyhavn. The colourful houses, the weather beaten details of houses and boats, wood, brass, reflections on the water, and so much more, made me wish to arrive as fast as I could to Nyhavn along with my camera. The day we visited weather conditions (freezing cold!) and light weren't the best for shooting; neverthless, I enjoyed my time there with my camera a lot.

Nyhavn is home to some 17th century colourful houses situated along the waterfront lined with old wooden ships and vessels.

24 hours, no rain!

Well, all I ever got to see (Yikes I almost said go*t there!) was the inside of a closet, but had it rained I would have seen much more - Copenhagen sounds like my sort of place, but preferably in the spring, awaiting the deluge to come. Missed it all - "tante pis!"

Stuck in a wardrobe all the time.

Away from Copenhagen I am sure there are adventures to be had!

Waterfront walks

by Sjalen

Copenhagen is full of water and my favourite day is when I can just stroll around the waterfront from Nyhavn to Amalienborg or around the canals of Christianshavn and people enjoy their drinks outside whilst all sorts of seagoing vessels, from the smallest canoe to the huge Oslo ferries pass by.

Meeting place for the Copenhageners

by Roeffie

On the Main shopping street Str?get halfway between the City Hall Square and Kongens Nytorv where the Royal Theater is located you will find Amagertorv. It has existed since the Middle Ages when it was a fish market and later vegetables from the farms on the island of Amager - hence the name, were sold here. This use as market place ceased in 1868 and to-day Amager Torv and the "Stork Fountain" is a popular meeting place for the Copenhageners.
