    The Square Hotel, Copenhagen, Denmark

    by

Hotel is VERY central located, just across the Town Square, also the Tivoli Gardens is 5 mins in walking distance which is a must see ... In case u arrive w the railway, also main Railway Station is not so far, even walking dsitance some, but if u have luggages to heavy carry, u better take a cab to Hotel ... Several other bars, restaurants and shopping streets are just around the Hotel reachable in walking ...

Rooms r very comfortable furnished, size of the room could be some more bigger, but its still ok, bathtub and a couch is also provided for comfort ... And one of the best I did like is that the elevators from Lobby to the rooms are only to operate unless u use ur room key, sothat non-guests without room key cant reach floors of the rooms which is superb for the security ... :)

Hotel has a nice restaurant area, decorated w scandinavian style objects and a perfect sorted breakfast, even w salmon, several kinds of cheese etc which equal to 5 star Hotels .....

Both recommendable for business and / or family tourist travels ....

Directions: Next to Town Square, near Tivoli Gardens.

    3* Hotel With 4* Accommodation

    by

I booked The Square for two reasons - because I wanted to be close to the railway station and because it was offering an excellent rate of approx. £60 a night for a single room & breakfast.

The exterior of the building is not attractive but once inside, I was very pleasantly surprised. The large reception area/lounge is very stylish and sparkling. In fact the whole place is stylish and sparkling and definitely of 4* quality so I guess the 3* rating is purely because there is no restaurant, which isn't a problem because because there are numerous cafes, bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity. There's a large, light and airy breakfast room on the 6th floor.

My room, although not large, was very comfortable and had everything I needed. The single bed was comfortable, with a feather-light duvet, and there was plenty of wardrobe space. The bathroom was lovely. It didn't have a bathtub but the shower was a proper 'wet room' type so none of the usual ill-fitting doors or curtains. But what made the accommodation so nice was the lighting, which created a lovely atmosphere.

Lifts are operated by room cardkeys for added security.

The location is very good too... in Rådhuspladsen (Town Hall Square) so there's always something going on right outside the door and the area felt safe, day and night. The main shopping streets are just the other side of the square and it's only a short walk to the canals.

Unique Quality: Stylish and comfortable accommodation, central location, good value.

Directions: Short walk from the Railway Station.

    Stay in Central Copenhagen

    by

The Square (it's actual name), http://www.thesquarecopenhagen.com/, is right off the Radhudspladsen (town square) and is quite nice and modern in design, but in a way unassuming. I have stayed there twice and will stay here each time I travel to Copenhagen for business. I am not sure what price-range it is considered to be in but I think it is mid-range compared to some of the other hotels I am permitted to stay at.

The rooms are quite large (in fact I recently travelled from a Std. room in a 4 start hotel in Boston to The Square) and it was no comparison. The Square is roomier hands down. A great breakfast buffet on the 6th floor.

It's greatest feature though is its central location. It's just a great jumping off and return point for your day trips in or outside the city. Central train station a couple blocks away for your longer jaunts. A main bus terminus across the street at Radhudspladsen plus one at the train station. The western entrance to Stroget (long pedestrian mall) just across the town square. Many pubs and restaurants right outside the door for those late returns from all day sightseeing or those "lazy or recovery" days. Tivoli around the corner (finally went last visit and is a must-see at night). Even considering its central location near 2 main boulevards, it is not too noisy as it is actually a building away from the largest one and the back of the hotel has a row of buildings behind it to cut down noise from the other main road. Not bad for being in the center of a city.

Highly recommend trying if it is in your budget. Whatever choice, you won't be disappointed because in the end it is about being in Copenhagen. It has quite a lot to offer.

    Unique Quality: - Good-size rooms
    - Great breakfast buffet

    Great Location

    by

This hotel is about a block from the Radhaus Plads and around the corner from Tivoli Gardens. It is clean and the reception is very helpful. We had 2 adults and 2 kids staying in the room and had plenty of space.

Directions: Near Radhaus Plads and Tivoli Gardens

  • One of the best locations

    by

It's one of the best locations in town. If you stay at this hotel, you can practically walk to all the major attractions in Copenhagen if you are staying in this hotel. Plus there is plenty of good nightlife around, with lots of cocktail bars and restaurants. The city hop-on/hop-off bus tours also start from radhuspladsen, the town square which is right opposite the hotel.

We were happy with the hotel, but the room could have been bigger for the money you pay.

Unique Quality: The amusement park, Tivoli, is just a 2 minute walk from the hotel, and you can buy the tickets from the hotel front desk itself. So you can avoid the queues at Tivoli.

Directions: Opposite the Town Square (Radhuspladsen)

    Excellent Modern Hotel

    by

A great central spot to stay whilst visiting Copenhagen. The rooms were large and modern and the breakfast was a sumptuous affair with plenty of excellent Danish bread along with the obligatory pickled herring.

Unique Quality: Interesting glass doors on the bathrooms. They are mostly frosted but have a clear square if you want to peak at someone sitting on the loo!

Directions: Walking distance from the central station.

Ideally Situated

We have just returned from a short 2 night break in Copenhagen which really was 'wonderful' thanks to the our choice of hotel being The Sauare. We would normally stay in 4 star, however after reading other reviews on this website we decided to give The Square a go. It certainly lived up to expections with the stylish decor, friendly staff, superb breakfast and fantastic location. Although the room was small, it was adequate and I would not hesitate to return.

Great hotel in town center

by TripAdvisor Member mdwest

I have just stayed two nights at The Square hotel, aptly named for it's location on the Raadhuspladsen, the City Hall square in central Copenhagen. Within 15 minutes of this hotel, by foot, at a wide variety of shops, restaurants for every taste, the Tivoli gardens and amusement park, Christiansborg castle, National Museum and Amaliensborg castle (no more than 25 minutes walk, about 5 km). While nothing to look at from the outside, the lobby immediately says "hip and fun" from the furniture, to the cool jazz playing in the background, to the friendly and helpful staff. Rooms are furnished in typical danish decor; not large but very comfortable. Breakfast is included and the selection of breads is very good. The price and location make this hotel a "must stay" when in Copenhagen.

...I have to agree with everyone else...

Copenhagen - Great City.....let down only by a lot of its hotels. There seem to be 2 choices of hotels in Copenhagen....either once great, now old and jaded hotels in decent districts...or lots of budget chains in, or on the edge of, the red light district....

The exception seems to be the square...fabulous location...everything is walkable. Place was "done up" I think 4 years ago....it's just starting to show a little wear, but it's still the best option in this city.

Modernist Vision of a Hotel

by A TripAdvisor Member

From the lobby upwards, a consistent attention to detail marks The Square as a hotel that is intended to raise the bar at this price range. Positioned for the seasoned business traveller and Copenhagen tourist visitor alike, the location serves as a great base for the Metro and Central Station.

Ended up in a superior room, featuring walnut floors, lacquered doors, and a key-card entry system that starts from the moment you step into the lifts. Incidentally, the lifts are rather quirky: the external door on each level opens like a cupboard, so watch out for unsuspecting lift passengers manually flinging open the outer door. A wide staircase services all six floors, and consistent decor throughout the hotel lends an air of calm.

Rooms are air-conditioned, well insulated from noise, and have both task and diffuse lighting. Ethernet-based Internet access is available via an access point in the room (a charge is applicable). A multichannel television doubles as the alarm clock. One issue with the twin beds provided, though, was that they were no wider than 2' 6", and the accompanying linens didn't provide sufficient coverage to tolerate movement exposing the rather spongy mattress.

A sixth-floor breakfast room that serves an open buffet crowns the Square: from 7-10 am on weekdays and 7-10:30 am at weekends. Despite arriving at various points during these allocated times, the provisions were plentiful, varied, and rarely allowed to deplete. During our stay, even the more popular options such as the Danish pastries were restocked so that they remain available until closing time. Room service is available for the slothful in the form of a delivery from the buffet.

The Square delivers, not just in relative Copenhagen terms, but as an absolute improvement in hotel provision at this price range.

Beware the noise

by A TripAdvisor Member

Great hotel, modern decor, good breakfast.
Beware the noise though - it backs onto a disco that stays open till 5am on weekends - the noise and vibration stopped me sleeping until it closed one Saturday night.
