lodging in Copenhagen
by vanderlust
I would like recommendations for lodging in Copenhagen. We will be visiting the weeks before Christmas. Most of the stay we will only require one bedroom but for three of the nights we will need 2 bdrs.I prefer older inns or residences over a glass and steel chain hotel. We normally use rentals by owner but I find very few of those in Copenhagen. I would appreciate any advice or suggestions for hotels, b&b's frbo's or maybe just a VT page that would be helpful. I have started sifting through mambers pages but there are so many good ones.

If you like smaller and older places then you might consider staying a little outside Copenhagen and jumping the suburbian commuter trains in to Copenhagen just like most office workers in Copenhagen do every day.
I recently recommended this little place to a couple who asked a similar question in the travel forum and they were really happy there:

Another option a little closer to Copenhagen and very close to the airport could be "Dragør badehotel".
This is a 103 year old hotel in one of the prettiest villages in the whole Copenhagen area:

Try and search for Dragør on vt to see this nice little fishing village.
It´s spelled "dragoer" on vt and it´s only 15 kilometers from Copenhagen center.

Thank you for the quick replies Claus. I will check those out. We am really hoping to stay in city center near the metro. We will not have a car and our daughter is studying there.

we stayed in Hotel Astoria ( booked through GTA hotels- although other sites have it too) decent place - decent price
it is just behind the main train station and handy for the tivoli gardens and shopping areas
we also walked to the zoo and too the harbour area
we did the Malmo trip - which was worth it but Sweden seems even more expensive than Denmark
there is also a few museums not too far away from this hotel - the National Museum and a Military musuem to name two of them
hope you enjoy copenhagen
we did the cleanliness and the fact that althought here was at least 3feet of snow down nothing came to a HALT as it does in England
Baresso Coffee
by gordonilla
We stopped off for a coffee and cake at the Baresso Coffee Shop located along Storget.
It was friendly and relaxing. The staff are very professional and know good coffee!
Sitting upstairs gives you a good view of the passing world.
The store also sells coffee beans and will grind these to order.

See the statue of the Little Mermaid from Hans Christian Andersen's tale, the royal palace and its guards and the central pedestrian district! The central pedestrian district has several restaurants and bars along the canal! You can sit outside even when chilly (they provide you with thick blankets) and watch the moored, wooden ships!

Copenhagen Cycle Chic has a sister website called Copenhagenize.com, subtitled "Life in the World's Cycling Capital."
The reason for having two websites is so Copenhagen Cycle Chic can concentrate on the aesthetic side of cycling, while Copenhagenize provides facts, figures and arguments.
Both sites display a counter labeled "Km Cycled by us Copenhageners so far today". Recently I looked in shortly before midnight and found that the counter was up to 1,199,750 kilometers (just under 1.2 million). Then at midnight it went back to zero and started over again.
The opening statement on Copenhagenize.com begins:
"Each and every day 500,000 people ride their bicycle to work or school in Copenhagen. This blog highlights who they are, why they do and how it was made possible."
They go on to say that forty years ago "Copenhagen was just as car-clogged as anywhere else but now 55% of the population choose the bicycle. 37% in the Greater Metropolitan area. Copenhagenizing is possible anywhere."
The Copenhagenizing site includes articles on such topics as
- 18 Ways of Knowing That You Have Bike Culture
- Rewarding Cyclists & Countering Bad Arguments
- Debunking Myths About Cycling
- Cyclists Make Better Shoppers
- Promoting Cycling Positively
- Bikes We Like
and many more.

Go and see Nyhavn and Dyrehaven which is a big forrest.
Nyhavn is also known as Denmarks (the worlds) longest bar and is a bunch of bars located next to each other along the canals of Copenhagen - fantastic in the summer
Dyrehaven is a big forrest with lots of animals and very beautiful in summer and winter
