Aalbæk Gamle Kro: Inn at Aalbæk

An attractive traditional Danish country inn in the fishing village of Aalbæk, on the Kattegat coast. Near the tip of Denmark, approx. 20 km south of Skagen and 20 km north of Frederikshavn.

This inn has nice modern rooms in two 2-storey blocks. The staff were polite and efficient, but not quite as friendly as the other inns we stayed at - probably because this is a larger inn, and they were quite busy. The only problem we experienced was the lack of parking spaces. Although we managed, there clearly were not enough for all the guests.

We had an excellent meal in the extensive, but cosy and very popular, restaurant in the older, main part of the inn. We paid DKK 837 for two courses, plus akvavit with the starters, 2 large beers each, and coffee. This worked out at about £40 each. Not cheap, but good value, as the quality of the food was excellent, and the service was good. Dave's herring platter starter was particularly generous - enough for two really (although Dave is still struggling to understand the Danish penchant for curry mayonnaise with their herring!).

Please note that this inn charges a 3.5% fee for payment by credit card.

Unique Quality: Good restaurant.
Short (10 min) walk to the harbour and beach.
Close to the shops in the centre of the village.
