Streets of Skagen
by lmkluque
Look at the photo, can you see it? Can you see what it is that is so attractive? If you can, then add Skagen to your plan of cities to visit in Denmark.
This photo of Anna Ancher's painting, "Gade i ?sterbyvej" ca. 1915 is a reminder of the feeling I have of Skagen. This beach community is very different from the beach towns along the coast of California and with the difference comes a sense of the suspension of time that is appealing to me. Yes, my visit was outside of the normal tourist months, so possibly Skagen would feel and look different in July, however, I doubt that more people and more activity would obsure the essence of this village in my mind.

Almost everywhere in Skagen you can buy replicas of the famous paintings by the Nordic light school artists, but it's only at Skagen's museum that you can admire the originals! There's a permanent exhibition with art works by among others; Anna & Michael Ancher, and P.S. Kroyer.
Step up the lighttower of Skagen
by globetrott
Lighttowers like this one are always a good chance to take a picture of the great coastline.
Some of the lighthouses have a cafe and you are allowed to walk up against a small fee and see the flat landscape from above. The lighttower has also a small museum and a large parking in front of it - but be careful, you have to share the parking with a lot of local geese, searching fro food in the nearby dunes.
Den Tilsandede KIrke

I'd rate "five stars" this visit - quite touristic indeed - to the rural church near Skagen. The peculiarity of this church tower - alone not noticeable - is its being isolated in the middle of nowhere and its being submerged by the mobile dunes that characterize this flat area. Of course, the number of tourists that come here is high, but the atmosphere is relaxing and the environment really worth. I'd reccommend you to reach it by bike.
