Denmark's Mini Desert
by Zandra
When approaching Skagen, one passes Denmark's mini desert Råbjerg Mile. It covers an area of about 2 km x 1 km and the highest point is approximately 35 m, thus making it the largest migrating sand dune in North Europe!!! The mile was formed more than 300 years ago and migrates a distance of 10-15 m per year.
If you plan to visit; remember to wear good shoes!!!
Skagen Vandtårn
by ValbyDK
Skagen Vandtårn (Water Tower) is located in the centre of Skagen - very near Michael and Anna Ancher’s House. The water tower was built in 1934 and there was used about 130000 red bricks to build the 34metres high tower. The water tank contained 150000litres of water.
The water tower was taken out of production in 1983 and today only used as an outlook point. The view from the tower is absolute amazing and this is a must in Skagen! The admission was only 10 or 20 DKK.
Desert in in the north.

Råbjerg Mile is the largest moving dune in Denmark. The wind moves it up to 15 m a year in a north-easterly direction. The dune leaves a low, moist layer of sand behind it, stretching westwards to Skagerrak, where the Mile was formed more than 300 years ago.
When you see it first you might think that you are somewhere in Africa. It is a lot of fun to jump there.
the town of skagen
by banshee11
skagen is a nice, not too big town. very special are the houses which make it so friendly. the houses are yellow with red tiled roofs and white laces.
also the port is very beautiful. there are nice, small shops, street-cafés and many art-museums with the famous paintings of the skagen artists. you can also visit the house where michael and anna ancher lived.
and don't miss to visit gamle skagen (old skagen) which is situated outside skagen in direction to the north sea.
