Ferry to Train connection on arrival at Esbjeg
by robertsofreigate
We are travelling on the DFDS ferry to Esbjerg in May, and will be continuing to Copenhagen by train, but have hit a brick wall trying to find out how to get from the boat to the station.
1) Is there a regular bus, or is it a taxi that is needed?
2) Which station in Esbjerg should we use, as all the rail websites list several.
3) DFDS themselves seem curiously ignorant on the subject, as they no longer sell the necessary tickets.
4) Is there a "connecting" boat train, or do we guess at the timetable?
We are experienced travellers, but are having great trouble in unravelling this one.
Has anyone else done this journey?
Thanks

I have travelled by train from Copenhagen to Esjberg and back and the trains go from Esjberg at the rate of 2-3 per hour for a good part of each day. The trip takes approx 3.5 hours if memory serves me correctly and ours was a direct train from the main Station in Esjberg to the main station in Copenhagen.

the port is not far from the train station and you might just want to take a short cab ride there.
trains to copenhagen are very frequent.
about one direct train per hour.
this is a good link for train travel in denmark:

Travel Tips for Esbjerg
Be there or be square
by Sjalen
The main square (as in the intro pic) is the place to be seen in and it is a great place on a sunny summers day as you can enjoy a beer, coffee or even a meal in one of the restaurants with tables outside. In this picture is also the tourist information in the brick building so yes, this really is the place where to get your bearings and meet people. Some restaurants double as night clubs too and there are more bars just around the corner in Skolegade. Hard to believe that the square was once in the outskirts of the city in the days when it only revolved around the harbour.
Relish that "small town feel"
by leigh767
"The best time of the year to visit..."
is *not* January. Or the winter months, in general.
Across the North Sea from Copenhagen, Esbjerg is a charming little town of 48, 000 people in Jutland. It's not too surprising that it's not all action-packed, but it's great if you love that small town vibe, and particularly if you want to avoid the touristy regions and get a feel of the actual Danish culture.
The people are wonderful-- warm, helpful, and (to the tourist's relief) speak perfect English. You'd almost think you're back home... except the Danish pastries look too good/look nothing like those back home.
