Old Town (Vanalinn)
by HORSCHECK
Explore the Old Town (Vanalinn) of Tallinn with the Town Hall Square (Raekoja Plats) and its many ancient buildings.
Afterwards climb Toompea Hill by using the cobbled street Pikk Jalg (Long Leg). The Hill is also known as Upper Town and offers many viewing points to enjoy Old Tallinn from above (see photo).
tallinn towers
by call_me_rhia
Tallinn’s a lovely medieval town and to remind people of this significant details, there are 26 steepled towers left all around the city, attached to the fortified city walls. Most towers have strange names, and occasionally even stranger histories. One of these towers, for example, is Pikk Hermann (Tall Hermann Tower) – called like this because it is 50 meters high. This is where the Estonian flag is raised every day. Then we have other towers: the Epping tower, the Hellemann Tower, the Fat Margaret, the Kiek in de Kok (peep into the kitchen) and the Nunna, Sauna and Kuldjala towers. My favourite, however, is the Maiden's Tower, which at some stage was used as a prison for prostitutes.
City Hall
by bugulma
City Hall building is one of the most known symbols of the city. City Hall was constructed on the central square at the beginning of 13th century. In 1402-1404 it was reconstructed. In front of the city hall there is square where you can have a rest drinking coffee or having lunch
Special toilets
by Rusket
looks like there is a trend to make the toilets look special in Tallin! Here are some pictures from Olde Hansa and Scotland Yard, with toilets that fit the theme of the respective place. The one in Olde Hansa is cute, while the one in Scotland Yard is scary ;-)
Packing List
by orlikins
Duty free on the Helsinki-Tallinn ferry so dont buy more than you can carry. Bring some decent shoes. You can get an excellent pair of boots for about €30-40 in Tallinn, that would normally cost about €65 in the British Isles.
