Decent value budget hotel, close to Old Town

I stayed at Hotell G9 with a friend for 1 night in October 2005.

We arrived in Tallinn late in the afternoon on a coach from Riga and had no accommodation pre-booked. I picked up a copy of the Tallinn "In Your Pocket" guide from the bus station and set about scanning the budget hotel section to find a place with good reviews. Hotell G9 seemed to fit the bill, so we caught a taxi there.

The hotel's exterior is not very attractive, but don't let that put you off. Much of the building houses offices, and only the 3rd floor comprises of hotel rooms.

Some of the rooms had been renovated shortly before our visit, but these were all fully booked when we went to check in. In fact, despite being outside the main tourist season, we were only able to book a non-renovated room for one night as the entire hotel was fully booked for the following night.

We decided to stay for one night and find somewhere else the next morning.

We paid 670 EEK (approx 30 GBP) for a non-renovated double room with private bathroom. No breakfast was included in the price.

Our double room consisted of two single beds, a couple of bedside cabinets, a desk and chair,a TV (with hundreds of satellite channels) and very little else. The bathroom was basic but clean. Given that this was a non-renovated room, I was perfectly satisfied with the standard of the room, especially at such a low price.

The Old Town is just a short walk from the hotel, maybe 5 minutes or a little more. There are plenty of cafes, shops and restaurants close by.

A good value budget hotel with basic, clean rooms, just a short walk from the Old Town.

Excellent Basic Hotel

The Hotell G9 is located on the third story of a small building on Gonsiori. The hotel seemed to be a hotel/hostel hybrid with private rooms. Rooms are basic, yet sparkling clean. My room even had a computer in it and internet access was cheap.

The hotel is maybe a five minute walk to the Viru Gate of the Old Town. Staff was very friendly and while we had no fluent language in common, we made things work very well.

Unique Quality: The location is excellent. The price is very reasonable.
