Excellent Tallinn hotel

My wife and I have just spent a week (early september) in this great hotel.
The staff are really helpful and pleasant, the breakfast (in the great looking cellar with beautiful vaulted ceilings) is more than enough to set you up for a day exploring the old town.
The room we were offered on the third floor was light and airy with plenty of room. It overlooked the central courtyard, yet we were not troubled by the noise of other guests.
This is one of the best centrally located hotels, being only about 30 paces from the beautiful town hall square.
We celebrated our anniversary whilst in Tallinn, and on returning to our room one afternoon, found a beautiful bouquet of roses from the mangement and staff.
All in all this is a hotel to be highly recommended for its service, quality, style and location

Merchant house hotel

This is the cloest hotel to the centre of the old town, its classy too! its a spa hotel with sauna and steam room.
Its very modern, a refurbished 14th centruy building.
staff are friendly and rooms are very big.
Breakfast is included in the 117euro per night price for a double room.
Bathrooms are great and the room has sky tv and minibar
its a perfect location for the old town, and only 10min walk from the bus stop from the airport.

Boutique hotel in centre

This is typical boutique hotel - very modern, small rooms and expensive. However it has a great location just yards from the town square. It is built round a smal central courtyard and the rooms are on 2 floors.

We had rooms on the first floor, I think I would not like a room on the ground floor as the courtyard is also used as a restaurant area. The rooms are small but well furnished. The air conditioning is noisy but very efficient.

The hotel has free internet access in the foyer, a very good bar The Ice Bar. Breakfast is in the cellar, and is ok, but the coffee is undrinkable.

Unique Quality: This hotel has a wonderful location, just yards from the town square.

Good mix of Medieval and Contemporary

Perfectly located in Dunkri just a matter of 20 yards from the old town square and town hall.

The staff speak English well and are always friendly and accommodating. Extra bonus is free WiFi available in the lobby (you can just about get it in some of the rooms too, but those incredibly thick medieval walls don't help) and all rooms have free wired access - ask at reception for an ethernet cable if you're stuck.

Live like a Merchant!

This comfortable hotel is situated only a few steps away from the Old Town Hall Square in Tallinn. Made from two houses linked together and is a pleasant warren of twisting corridors, staircases, unusually shaped rooms and what appears to be a number of original features such as wooden beams and painted frescos. There is also a lovely courtyard off which some of the rooms lead.

The fixtures and decor are a mixture of contemporary, such as the wonderful rectangular sink in the bathroom, and classic, there are some very attractive Chinese and Asian style cabinets and chests in the corridors. The room we were in was long and quite narrow but still spacious and decorated in muted gold and brown giving it a pleasingly relaxed atmosphere. This was also aided by the bed which was provoked a pleasing "Oooooh" as we rested our tired limbs on it!

Breakfast, which was served in either the cellar restaurant or the upstairs coffee room, depending on the number of visitors, was very good and consisted of a wide range of hot and cold food sometimes in a buffet format and sometimes cooked to order.

Body and beauty treatments are available and, best of all, the sauna is free to guests. A good way to warm up (a lo!)) and relax after a day of sightseeing in the city.

The staff were friendly and efficient and the service we received always excellent

My one minor criticism of the hotel is that I would have liked a hotel manual/services guide in the room. There is an excellent one on the website and this service was advertised as being on the interactive TV in the room but ours, sadly, didn't seem to be. It is a very minor criticism, however, and I dare say had we asked for more information or mentioned that the service channel on the TV wasn't working it would have been dealt with.

All in all this is a super hotel, very reasonably priced for the standard of service (200 Euro/136 GB sterling/251 USD for a standard room plus breakfast and taxes during summer) and a perfect base from which to enjoy the fascinating city of Tallinn

Unique Quality: Sauna (open 8.00-21.00), original features also contains the Ice Bar (see separate tip)

The best hotel I've stayed in

Me and my girlfriend travel a lot and this was our 3rd time in Tallinn. I stayed in Merchant's House for the fist time (as I heard later it was only opened recently, this summer) and I must say that this hotel was superb!
The rooms were nice and clean, our room had elements of the original building dating back to the 14th century. The staff was polite, friendly and professional and the restaurant excellent (I wrote a separate review under "Restaurants").
And of course the Ice Bar! Absolutely brilliant! They serve vodka shots in glasses that are actually made from real ice!
And the location of course. The hotel is only few steps from the Old Town square.
I would recommend this to everybody! An experience not to be missed.

More about Merchant's House Hotel

Excellent hotel

by TripAdvisor Member PatHardy

The Merchant's House Hotel provided the best air-conditioned room we had on our Baltic trip.Location was excellent on busy street leading to central square and thanks to courtyard facing room and AC we had no noise at night. The service was v.good with helpful staff.Food and breakfast could not be faulted.Only niggle was music at breakfast which we managed to get turned down.Restaurant was extremely hot but then outside temps. were extreme. There were 2 outside eating areas for lunch/dinner as well.Would certainly recommend this hotel.

Stayed at the fantastic MH for 3 nights. Had a great room on the top floor facing the courtyard i.e. the quieter side. (We paid for an exec double so this may have had a bearing on our room compared with other reviews). The hotel is just off the town square and as central as you can get. The breakfasts are great and the service superb e.g. arranging ultra express laundry since our bags hadn't made it through Schipol! I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Tallinn

Fantastic location

by TripAdvisor Member Reenby

Just back from Tallinn and stayed at MH. Rooms are round a central courtyard. Ours was very small, but I think they are all small. However it was very comfortable, good quality fittings and spotless.

Our travelling companians were not so lucky and got a room which hung over an access lane. They suffered noisy nights and very little light getting into the room. Really the hotel should not use such rooms as they are substandard.

Air conditioning is a bit noisy and has an annoying light display, but very efficient. It cooled the room down very quickly and the trick is to swich it off when you want to sleep. Worked fine in September but might be more of a problem in summer.

Very efficient friendly staff. Breakfast average, with undrinkable coffee. Good cocktails in the icebar. Free internet screen in the foyer.

Its best point is location. Just uphill and no more than a minutes walk from the main square.
