Good value 3* hotel in Tallinn

I stayed at Hotel Mihkli with a friend for 1 night in October 2005. We had stayed the previous night at the budget Hotell G9, but it was fully booked for the second night of our stay, so we had to find an alternative.

After flicking through our "In Your Pocket" guide to Tallinn, we decided that Hotel Mihkli looked like one of the lower priced mid-range options, so we walked there and checked in.

We paid 1050 EEK (approx 50 GBP) for a double room with private bathroom and breakfast and this proved to be good value for money.

Our double room was located in the loft of the hotel, with a large skylight window giving the room plenty of natural light. The furniture was new, the room was well decorated and the shower room was spotlessly clean. The room consisted of two single beds, satellite TV, a wooden desk, a couple of chairs and was very well heated. Fresh towels are provided.

Breakfast is served in the basement of the hotel, in what becomes the "Pub Mihkli Trahter" (a pub and restaurant) later in the day. The breakfast is buffet style and consists of a large choice of cereals, yoghurt, meats, cheeses, eggs, bread, fish, biscuits, cakes, fruit juices, coffee and tea.

There is an Internet room in the hotel where you can log on for a small charge. There is also a sauna and jacuzzi room. In fact, the price of a room includes a free morning sauna, but neither of us took up that offer.

The well staffed reception area contains plenty of information for guests.

The hotel is located just a short walk from the Old Town of Tallinn and there are lots of bars, restaurants and shops close by. I particularly enjoyed the Mandarin Chinese restaurant that is located right next to the hotel (see my restaurant tip for more details).

A good value mid-range hotel with clean and comfortable rooms and a good breakfast. A short walk from the Old Town. Recommended!

Hotell Mihkli

Good standard, modern hotel in a converted building, just outside of the city centre. We've stayed here twice, so can't be that bad! Popular with Germans too.

Rooms are clean and quite large, but a bit sparsely furnished. They can get a bit hot in the summer.

Good value restaurant & bar in the basement.
