Tallin on Sunday or Monday

by bean4bean4

Hi

I ll be in Helsikni at the end of June and want to spend one day in Tallin

Any recommendations as regard which day I should visit Tallin? I can be there either on Sunday or Monday (only). Which one is better? Are there any shops, museums, etc. closed on Sunday?

thanks

Hi!

Shops are open also in sundays, museums can be closed.

In fact, most museums are closed on Mondays (and many of them also on Tuesdays) - check out http://www.tourism.tallinn.ee/fpage/explore/museums. However, most of them are open on Sundays. About shopping: most stores and all shopping malls are open on Sundays - smaller ones for a shorter time or even closed, but most shopping malls in the centre don't close before 8pm or even 9pm also on weekends.

If you are in to museums,I seem to remember most of them being closed on Mondays. However the old town is beautiful and well worth a look even if you cannot go into the sights.

There is much to see and do, you have to decide wether to wander around in Old Town or enjoy the charms of the "New Town" and there is also one nice website, that I can recommend and that gives quite good information about Tallinn and Estonia: http://all-about-estonia.com Taking the walks in the Old Town and by the sea :)

Tallinn Tourist Information Centre

by frockland

Tallinn´s Tourist Information Centre is located in Old Town on Kullassepa 4, only a few metres from the Raekoja Plats. Everything you need to know about the city (accommodation, sightseeing, transportation) the friendly staff will help you.

If you buy a Tallinn Card here you will receive a free copy of the Tallinn In Your Pocket City Guide.

Viru Gate

by bugulma

The Viru Gate is in the eastern section of the city wall. The main tower of the gate was originally built in the years 1345-1355. Today, Viru Gate is one of the main entryways in the Town Wall, leading into the Old Town to Viru Street, a main shopping and dining street of the Old Town.

Enjoy some A. Le Coq beer

by BillNJ

While in Tallinn, enjoy some A. Le Coq beer. At the Nimeta Baar, a friendly Dutchman introduced me to this great beer -- for short, he called it "the Coq". I was told that it is one of the best selling Estonian beers (Saku is the other), and it is quite good. Enjoy!

Want to go to a gym???

by JeffandMerliis

Unfortunately, my work schedule keeps me away from Tallinn, and my wife, for 2 months at a time... when I am home I like to go to a gym in order to keep fit. Although there are many gyms in Tallinn, there are only a couple that will allow you to pay as you go. I would say to steer clear of all of the gyms in town except Club 26 at the Reval Hotel Olympia. Although this is not the most well-equipped fitness facility I have ever been to, it has enough equipment to keep you busy, and the price is not bad either.
