Hotel Victoria: Hotel Victoria

doubles 990-1150 EEK

Idyllic, pretty small, very comfortable rooms and good service, located in the very centre of the town. Despite the central location the rooms are quiet.

Ammende Villa: Ammende Villa

This restored, Art-Nouveau mansion surrounded by gardens and fountains is by far the poshest hotel in town. Each of the suites in the 1905-era main house has a personality of its own, and all come furnished with antiques of that period. The somewhat plainer double rooms are in the 'gardener's house' out back. Classical performances are held in the garden or the salon each Thursday.

Villa Ammende: Villa Ammende

24 rooms
(1 single 900kr,
10 doubles 1200kr,
13 suites 2500 - 5000kr,
extra bed 500kr,
pets 200kr).

( USD = 17kr, 1 DEM = 8kr, 1EUR = 15,6kr)

Ammende's Villa is a significant example of Jugendstil that was typical to the turn of the 20th century. It was designed and built by the order of Herman Ammende, a merchant of Pärnu, by Mieritz & Gerassimov Design and Building Office of St. Petersburg. The main building was completed in 1905, the other in 1905-1907. It is the most stylish and best-preserved building of its area in Estonia and marvellous example of the Russian architecture of the beginning of the 20th century. Russian Art Nouveau included all trends of Jugendstil in parallel with a touch of local colouring. The Villa is the closest to the Brussels trend that was unique in Estonia, as the Baltic-German architects as well as those from St. Petersburg, Finland and Riga mostly preferred Nordic or Heimat-style architecture. The completed building was more opulent as compared to the initial project - most probably, such a playful style and innovative building materials suited the fancy of a bit parvenu merchant, enabling him to show off his wealth.

Since Pärnu has only a few...

Since Pärnu has only a few large hotels, much of the town's tourist flood is mopped up by small villas and guesthouses. Sanatoriums provide an additional option by making rooms available without treatment, and anyone with a car should consider saving cash and getting some fresh air by staying in one of the tourist farms outside town. Expect to pay 20-40% less from September through April.
