A true waterfront hotel.

What a wonderful relief this hotel was after staying at the Ammende Vila. The hotel is a true waterfront 1930’s icon with splashes of Art Deco architecture. The moment we saw this hotel whilst walking along the beach promenade we want to be apart of it, so we cancelled one night at the Ammende and happily booked into this hotel.

Check in- We were very happy to be welcomed into this establishment and all went accordingly to plan – perfect.

Room- Our room 108 was actually called a suite and was less than our tiny room in the Ammende Vila. It consisted of a walk-in hallway with a clothes rack which flowed into a very spacious lounge room with all glass 1930’s windows that overlooked the beach. Just open your numerous windows and you have a gorgeous sea breeze whistling through the room. The room consists of a good size working desk, leather couch, coffee table, TV, mini bar and a door that led to a lovely airy balcony with a small timber table and chairs.

Off the lounge room is the bedroom which consists of a double bed, side tables, TV, and small make-up mirror and chair.

Bathroom- The bathroom is probably the worst aspect of the suite, its tiny and when the shower is going it floods the floor, however you do have a handy mop to wipe up the water. Bath robes and slippers are provided although the toiletries are limited and the hairdryer is something from the dark ages.(so girls bring your own!).

Restaurant- We had lunch and dinner here and enjoyed all meals. There is an open outdoor terrace and a formal dining area. The only disappointment was the chef would not part with his Red Onion soup recipe….if dining here, it’s a MUST DO experience. tasting the soup !

Unique Quality: Facilities – Well you are on the beach, just a one minutes walk across the lawn. We are beach freaks and love to see, hear and be near it. This hotel is a gem for those who enjoy the same thing. On the top floor there is an open deck for a pleasant coffee or drinks and a good size sauna is also available. Internet service from the room is difficult, however you can take your laptop up to the top floor café for good connection. There is also a free internet computer next door to the reception.

Overall- As I’m writing this, my view is watching the small waves stretching onto the beach and the trees slightly swaying with the sea breeze. To me its absolutely perfect.

Tip- To make the best of your Parnu experience have dinner here and also make sure you have dinner at Ammende Vila. For lunch just walk up the oceanfront promenade to Steffani Pizzarestoran for a fab pizza. Drinks are a must at Kuursaali tavern, listen to some wonderful live music whilst soaking in the true Estonia experience.

Make sure you ask for a suite as the other rooms looked small.

The rooftop cafe is located in the Scandic Rannahotel. The cafe is a fabulous place to have coffee or a light refreshment whilst enjoying the lovely views of the sea.

Quaint Parnu.

by Openseas

"A delightful seaside village."

Parnu is a lovely seaside village with gorgeous beaches, wonderful leafy parks and historical buildings which creates a colourful vibrant and interesting place to visit. The well preserved Old Town is attractive and appealing with unique architecture oozing with sublime character.

There are some amazing charming timber houses which echo sounds of the changing past. If visiting Estonia its well worth your effort to taste and explore this little gem which sits proudly overlooking the Baltic Sea.

Parnu is Estonia’s most popular beach holiday destination for many Estonians; it is situated on the coast of Gulf of Riga and lies approximately 125km south of Tallinn. The town is split by the Parnu River, on one side you have the sandy beaches and leafy parklands and the other side the Old Town which houses some wonderful examples of Estonia architecture.

Parnu is a charming village to stroll around and it’s absolutely perfect for cycling. There are beautiful parklands and leafy avenues with exquisite wooden Estonia houses that dot the streets. The village is petite and pretty oozing with charm and character; you can find some wonderful buildings dating back to the 17th century and fine examples of archaeological findings in the Parnu Museum.

There is plenty of accommodation available from budget to five star hotels. There are two icon hotels in Parnu and both are completely different and unique. The Ammende Vila is the most popular for B&B lovers and is housed in a gorgeous Art-Nouveau building surrounded by exquisite beautiful gardens. The other hotel is the Scandic Ranna Hotel built in the 30’s which sits proudly on the waterfront and has direct access to the beach. The Victoria Hotel is another favourite hotel for travelers built in the 1920’s and having a charming and delightful façade.

"TRANSPORT"

Parnu is approx 130kms from Tallinn and can be easily reached by air, car, bus or train.

Parnu airport is close by 5km and a bus service is available. Air Livonie also flies from Parnu to Kuressaare, Kihnu and Ruhnu.

Buses - from Tallinn, Tartu and Riga. The Parnu bus station is in the heart of downtown Ringi 3 (luggage storage is also available).
Trains - Leave from Tallinn and take approx 3hrs. www.edel.ee
