Vana Tom: Pros and Cons about Vana Tom

There are lots of pros and cons about this budget hostel and here is my view.

Pros: (1) perfect location, right in the heart of the center, save me a lot of travel time and money. (2) The staff is helpful and approachable. this is definitely not something i would expect in this crowded hostel. (3) The whole hostel has been refurbished recently. clean rooms and power shower, clean kitchen with microwave and essential cooking utensils.

Cons: (1) I reserved a 6-bed mixed dorm, it turns out a room with 3 triple bunk beds (the top bunk bed was labelled for large laguagge, but it did have 7 ppl for one night). (2) the triple bunk beds is a scary thing, you will have absolutely no head room and whatsoever. I cant imagine myself being in this tiny room when it is full. Fortunately I visited there in late April, most of the time rooms are only half full. (3) there is no ventilation at all except a window facing a busy street.

Baltic Hotel Vana Wiru: A modern 4-star hotel in the heart of the Old Town

A very nice, plush 4**** hotel with friendly and helpful staff.

Clean and confortable. Excellent breakfast buffet.

This is a modern hotel with a stunning and sumptious marble lobby and reception area.

It is located just off of the vibrant Viru Street which is at the heart of the town's nightlife. However, it is well hidden and once inside you would hardly know you are at the hub of it all.

The hotel has a quiet courtyard with a terrace grill that operates all day. The grill chef serves up inexpensive (£10 per head - with drinks) and delicious food cooked while you watch. The terrace is open to non-residents, just pop in after visiting the Knitting Wall (Muurivahe Street) which it is just off.

Hotel Skane: Good value

We stopped for 1 night and paied about 600 per night. Great location for trains, trams and buses to get around plus only a five minute walk to the old town. The room was pretty small and clean but the walls are a bit thin - noisy!

Children Friendly,

The Radisson SAS Hotel, Tallinn: perfect place to enjoy the city from

The Radisson SAS Hotel, the first class hotel in Tallinn is
centrally located next to business, shopping and
entertainment areas. The hotel is a perfect place to enjoy
the city from, as the picturesque Old Town with its
cobblestone streets and welcoming atmosphere is close by. Good buffet breakfast. Rooms are spacious with good facilties, including coffee-maker, iron and ironing board, and minibar (rather expensive). Rooms had great views across the old town, so make sure to ask for this with an upper floor.

2 restaurants, 2 bars, health club with sauna opened 24-hours, bar on the 25th floor what views of the city, most rooms with a great view over towards the Old Town.

Uniquestay: Unique, comfortable & perfectly located

The Uniquestay Hotel is a moderately trendy place perfectly located at the bottom of Toompea Hill - just outside the Old Town, but for people with no mobility problems, a 5 - 10 minute stroll takes you right to the heart of Tallinn.

If you arrive by Taxi you might be dropped off at the back entrance - instead of wandering around the empty courtyard, head for the main road and the HUGE closed door (it's cold, it has to be kept closed) and walk in. If you see a goldfish tank in the wall by the steps, you've found the right place!

Check In was quick and painless with reception staff who spoke English well. They were able to help with bus information, and booked us a taxi a couple of evenings when we thought it was too cold for the walk into town.

The rooms are small, but very comfortable. They have their own (bright) bathrooms and showers which, although not the height of luxury, were perfectly acceptable considering the price of the room. Each room has a television and - here's the best bit - free internet access. This was great for the cold weather, as we could have a look online, decide what we were going to do or find a place to eat without wandering around freezing. This is definitley something all hotels should have in the future.

The only let down was the breakfast which was a bit poor, but as it was included in the price, we had it anyway.

The hotel also has a massage serice featuring a range of reasonably priced treatments you can book via the hotel website. A computer crash meant they lost my booking, but when I spoke to reception they quickly arranged another appointment.

Also, you must spend an hour in the Sauna. Its quite cheap, and you get it all to youself. Best to book it for the evening when it is dark and truly relaxing.

For extra you can upgarde to a Zen Room. I didn't do this or see the rooms, but apparently they are a bit bigger, have whirlpool baths and anti-gravity Nasa chairs - whatever they are.

The City Guest House: Excellent location just on border of Old Town

Great clean and tidy place. Friendly staff.
Rooms with own bathrooms, or dorm rooms with bathrooms in corridors (which there are plenty of and all clean).
The place has a nice little bar (1GBP for a large bottle of beer) and the kitchen will do you a tasty traditional dinner very cheaply if you require at around 5-8pm (around 4GBP for soup and dinner).
Breakfast adequate - continental style and always plenty of tea and coffee available.

Fantastic building dating from 1912. Designed by the Finnish architect Eliel Saarinen .
I think that it was originally the German/Danish Consulate.
