We spent 2 rainy nights & days in one of these - it was ok. It depends of course, what kind of expetations you have, but felt good to wake up in the morning & step onto wet grass:)) Warm water costed 1 euro/5 minutes... Theme: CampgroundComparison: least expensive

If you're looking for a site that's simple and well-run but has everything you really need - including your own fjord at the end of the site - look no further than Kattnas. It's in a quiet area but still quite near Eckero and the main road to Mariehamn.

Reasonable equipment, two hotplates and fridge in our room. It was notionally for four but a family would have felt cramped. Breakfast was not provided.
More suitable with car or cycle [available for hire locally] than for foot-dependent pensioners like us.
Well located for good signed walks and close to the church. The painting on wood shown in the photo is from the 13/14th century ruins of the Franciscan Chapel next to the church.

If you haven't booked ahead, just ask at the small kiosk at the harbour. The hostel is actually in the red schoolhouse at the end of the street, and the proprietor lives in the red house opposite the kiosk.

 'Pirate ship' always full of

It is only a quarter of an hour walking from the centre of Mariehamn, the island capital. As you get nearer to the town, the forest gradually changes to parkland but the children's facilites seem to gain by their informality, spread out and unsigned.
Back to the buildings! The breakfast is more than adequate and includes as much cona coffee as you want. The manager, Bror Boman, is very friendly and speaks very good English. The chalets are adequately and simply equipped with cooking and eating pots and cutlery, microwave oven, two hotplates and fridge.. Warm water showers in all chalets.
Its proximity to the Baltic, its natural surroundings and supurb wild flowers and its extreme friendliness were all very memorable. This guesthouse is not far from the harbour,you can walk there but we took a taxi because we had many luggages --- cost only 4 euro. The rooms are equipped with made beds, towels and wash-basins but the showers and toilets are in the hall-way. it costs 91 euro exclude breakfast but it has microwave and some kitchen ware.
When we arrived , nobody's there but we got a welcome note and it had a coin for you to call them if you want anything.
