60s wallpapers

Hostel Mekka is something of a cult thing in Helsinki. It was founded in the mid 1930s and its interior is very retro.. except that it is not retro. It's just old. The wall paper and the floor standing lights are from the 60s. And, oh yes, there is a bible on the bedside table in each room ;-0

The hostel is located in a building that was constructed at the end of the 18th century. The location is great: right in the city center and a few blocks from the Senate Square. The main attractions such as the main sights, shopping streets, nightclubs, restaurants, bars and public transport are just around the corner.

The rooms (in particular nos 310 and 305) have been used as a set for several Finnish films and music videos (including the Caravan video by a Finnish group called Husky Rescue). The films include a 2006 film 'Miehen Työ'
('A Man's Job', a Finnish film that was awarded The Golden Moon of Valencia in 2007) , the 2004 film 'Levottomat 3' (the third part in the trilogy of films called 'Restless') and the last scene of the 2004 film called 'Vares' (Private Detective Vares) were filmed here.

Facilities include 24h reception, laundry service, luggage storage. Credit cards accepted.
Altogether 30 single, double, triple and quad rooms starting from €50/night. Bed in a dorm €27/night/per person. There are no en suites, but all the toilets and showers are located along the corridor. The prices include VAT, tax & service as well as linen and towels.

Breakfast is available for €5. Car parking is available for €13 per night.

A safe place to stay

Hostel Mekka is located wihin walking distance of all Helsinki main attractions. The staff is nice, and you feel safe at the hostel. The hostel is not that well maintained, but it works! The rooms (at least the one we had) are big and the bathrooms ok.

Q: Do busses run to the airport 24/7? If not, what time do they start? "I need to get to the airport by 6 AM on Sunday (so I probably need to get on the bus around 5:30 AM), will the 615 or the Finnair..."

A: "I walked down to where the 615 departs from but I didn't see any type of time-schedule listed anywhere. :/"
