Castle of culture
by Zirpsis about Finnish National Theatre
The repertoire in this institution is more elitist, classy serious art, if you like. So you won't see any musicals here but, for instance, Shakespeare's or Moliere's or well known Finnish plays, also contemporary playwrights.
Designed by Onni Tarjanne, this theatre building represents national romantic style and it was ready in 1902. It was fully renovated a few years back and looks great now. There are two major scenes (Big with 885 seats and Small with 309 seats) and two smaller ones (Willensauna with158 seats and Omapohja with 78 seats).
The statue in the front (guy sitting), Aleksis Kivi, is regarded as Finland's national writer.
