It was our 15th wedding anniversary, and we wanted something little more "special" than usually, and booked this hotel, It has just renovated the rooms and they were lookin great! I loved the violet color on the wall, not allways those boooooring brown and white witch Finnish hotels seem to love. The wall seems brown at photo, but it really is violet.
And the bed was so comfortable! And they even had Eero Aarnio´s (maybe my favourite Finnish designer) "Tuplakupla" (Doubblebubble) lamp at the roof. The lobby of hotel was also very well designed, had design furniture and so on.
Location is perfect for us. Just in the centre, and our favourite restaurant to eat, Maya at opposite of the hotel! Manu museums very near, theatre close and "everything" at walking distance!
Only a one little con: They didn´t notice our wedding anniversary in any way, even if we told it as booking. At hotel GLO they did remember my husbands 40th birthday by giving us a better room than we had paid for.
Unique Quality: There is a gym and sauna (like most Finnish hotels) and so DELICIUS breakfast! Best breakfast we have had in hotel as far as I can remember. At least at Helsinki. There was for example many types of different bread and all were fresh baked. Also good selection of allmost everything (if you ask us..).
The parking is at Kluuvi parking : http://www.europark.fi/pysakointitalot/hki-kluuvi/?gclid=CIy9pMTt0LECFaYtmAod-UwAzA You need to walk a little from there to hotel. Remeber to tell the staff you parked there, you´ll get a discount of parking.
Directions: Very close to railway station.
It was my first visit here on business tour, I was fearing if my boss be angry for far location. But we found a convenient and reachable place, bus and railway station lie across the nearby street. There comes also airport shuttle bus. Hotel has business environment, professional staff but very friendly, not clingy . Rooms were vere clean and fragrant, I got problem in my net connection..they gave me free wi fi. I also got complementary tea on my arrival. Morning buffet was very elegant with mouthwatering dishes. Plus point is it has a beautiful location and charming surrounding. I would definitly do my next meeting here.
Unique Quality: reachable place, in the heart of city
great business environment
professional and friendly staff
free wi fi
This hotel next to the Finnish National Theater is very centrally located , but in spite of its central location, it's very quiet.
The rooms are elegant and surprisingly large and the bathrooms are gorgeous, with heated floors. Satellite television, dial-up Internet connections and minibars in the rooms.
The lobby is cozy, with quick coffee service for those who do not have time for the very good - as in most hotels in the Nordic countries - breakfast.
Most of the staff speak English as fluently as Finnish.
Unique Quality: And it is very close to everything. Within walking distance there are a lot of restaurants, cafes, and cinemas.
The Finnish National Theater is built in a national romantic style - in front of it a statue of Finlands national author Aleksis Kivi made by Wäinö Aaltonen just next door.
The Uspenski Cathedral, only 800 metres from the hotel, is said to be Western Europe's largest orthodox church.
Other places such as central railway station 300 m, Ateneumare art museum 200 m, Lutheran Cathedral 500 m, Stockmanns 500 m, Kiasma 500 m, Senate Square 500 m, Parliament Building 600 m.
Directions: Metro stations Rautatientori and Kaisaniemi in close proximity.
The Radisson SAS Plaza Hotel is in a great location -- on a quiet side street near the main train station. The room was large by European standards, the bed was very comfortable, and the shower was terrific. Also, there is a combination safe in the room which is a big convenience.
The lobby is very nice -- and they have computers with free internet access for hotel guests.
Since no trip to Finland would be complete without an experience in a Finnish sauna, I used the sauna in the hotel which was provided to guests at no extra charge. It was extremely hot (as a sauna should be) -- and I sweated profusely before taking a cold shower.
Breakfast is also included in the price of the room -- and what a breakfast it was! There was a great selection of hot and cold food. The only negative was that it was very crowded. Actually, this negative turned into a positive because I ended up enjoying my breakfast at the same table as a lovely woman from Italy who was in Helsinki on business.
Unique Quality: There is a large bar in the hotel -- and it was very crowded during my weekend stay. On one evening, I ended up drinking and chatting with some interesting and friendly patrons from Norway, Denmark, and Russia (luckily for me they all spoke English) until well past 3 a.m.
Directions: City center, near Central Railway Station
Stayed here 3 nights in 2006. Standard room, standard hotel. Good location just off Rautatientori square. I would stay there again.
Unique Quality: The crystal bar is very nice for a pre-dinner drink with its curtain of crystal beads.
We stayed a full week here and it was lovely! We recieved a free upgrade to business class which was a great start to the holiday. The bed was massive! The room was spotless with a lovely bathroom, plenty of storage space and even had tea/ coffee facilities (unusual in Helsinki). Very quiet and fantastic staff. well located. Would definitly stay there again! The breakfast was good, although tables were at a premium during busy times.
Unique Quality: The standard of the rooms was lovely.
Directions: Just off railway square. Cant miss it! Next to the Grand casino
The rooms were warm and large - I had a business class room with sauna; excellent facilities overall
Unique Quality: the hotel has been used as a location for one of the story lines of the Finnish soap opera "Secret Lives" - excellent dining facilities
Directions: next to the main railway station and the National Theatre
Very very nice, common areas better than standard rooms (which have a little bit old feeling), superaltive bar and very cozy restaurant/breakfast rooms.
Unique Quality: The design bar
This hotel is in a great location, just behind the railway station in the centre of the city but in a peaceful corner. So, if you are a night tiger, this hotel will be just perfect for you.
Directions: In the centre behind the station.
Top class 4-star hotel located close to the railway station. We could only afford to stay here because their special summer rates were nearly half the normal rate.
The rooms were large (if a little dull) and comfortable, with excellent en-suite facilities. The staff were friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good, although on a couple of busy mornings it was a few minutes before we could get a freshly laid table.
Overall, excellent value for what we were paying (€99 per night for a double).
Unique Quality: Excellent location.
Directions: Close to the bus station and main railway station.
Arrived late in the evening on a business trip for a week. Check in was quick and easy, the (standard) room was very big, extremely comfortable bed and pillows, minibar, tv and the shower was great - walk-in and powerful!
One complaint - bloody nightmare to get taxi's in bad weather, there is a taxi stand just outside the door and you have to wait in the cold queueing for them.
Unique Quality: The architecture in the dining room was very interesting, not something I normally notice, it had a very (nice) overwhelming feel.
The location of the hotel couldn't be better, right next to a cinema, nice restaurants, lots of shopping and the huge central train station.
Directions: Go to the central train station and you will see the "Radisson" sign if you look around.
