great campsite

a great place to stay. although 10km from the city centre it's easily reached by metro. it's at the lakeside, so why not take a bath after a wonderful day in the city?

Unique Quality: facilites include lakeside sauna, restaurant, good sanitary buildings and open-air kitchen places (with roof).

City Campsite

Rastila Campsite is a great and affordable place to spend your (overnight) time in Helsinki while enjoying some real Scandinavian nature nearby. Allthough in recent year the area around the campsite has been developed and is now full of 4-5 story appartment blocks, there is still enough forest and sea nearby to enjoy.

Plus of course, Helsinki centre is not too far away thanks to Rastila Metro station which is situated right in front of the campsite. The metro will take you in approximately 17-20 minutes to the city centre. The metro leaves about every 10 minutes (more frequently during rush hours). Just beware when you go back from the city centre to the campsite to take the metro to Vuosaari (and not to Mellunmäki).

Unique Quality: The campsite itself has a large space for mobile homes and caravans. Furthermore an area for tents and of course as most Scandinavian campsite have, also cottages. There is a very authentic restaurant on the campsite, which serves quite ok food for a reasonable price.

At the other side of the 'highway' is a large Spar supermarket where you can buy lots of stuff. There are some restaurants (kebab and pizza style), ATM, and a karaoke pub.

Also if you cross the highway and you stick to the water side, you will disover a large forest with lots of trails that lead you to some scenic views. From there it is also easy to get to the Vuosaari 'beach' area.

The best hostel in Helsinki

SUMMER HOSTEL in Helsinki.

l worked in this hostel in summer 2002, it is very cool place, modern building and good clean rooms. Some people said that you cant find better hostel in whole Europe!
A school building next to the camping site operates as a hostel in the summer. The summer hostel has rooms for 1 - 12 persons, sauna, kitchen and lounge. Pets are not allowed. Summer hostel is open between 2nd June - 1st August 2003.

Unique Quality: - The beach sauna is open to the general public at set times in the summer. - Two saunas, which can be rented for private use.
- A traditional barn can be hired for private occasions or conference use.
- Visitors can also rent kayaks and bikes.
- The fully-licensed restaurant at Rastila operates year round and can be reserved for private occasions.

Rastila Camping

Tent 8-13 € (7-11 USD), trailer 10-16 € (8-14 USD), cottage 37-92 € (31-78 USD).

Unique Quality: This is the only campground in Helsinki and it is also one of most popular in Finland. It's open around the year and you can sleep either in a tent, cottage or trailer. There is saunas, a restaurant and some bikes, canoes and row-boats to rent. They are making some renovations and the campground is under constructions for at least a year. It's anyway open.

Q: Do busses run to the airport 24/7? If not, what time do they start? "I need to get to the airport by 6 AM on Sunday (so I probably need to get on the bus around 5:30 AM), will the 615 or the Finnair..."

A: "I walked down to where the 615 departs from but I didn't see any type of time-schedule listed anywhere. :/"
