a very cosy and central accommodation

A lovely family-run hotel which also rents apartments. Friendly owners and staff and very centrally located - just a few minutes away from the esplanadi. The room was not huge, but we did manage to fit a baby cot in there. Our bed, by contrast (see photo), was very large...

Unique Quality: The most excellent breakfast one can imagine; several types of top quality cereals, excellent breads, jams, cold meats and yummy salmon, a selection of cheeses, yoghurts, eggs, bacon, porridge, salads and fruits... Enough to keep you going for msot of the day which - given the prices in helsinki - is not a bad idea at all.

Helsinki home from home.

Comfortable, clean, lovely bed, minibar, iron, ironing board, large tv,phone, desk, en suite, air conditioning plus free coffee or tea allday in reception area. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is buffet style and plentiful. I stayed 3 nights wish i could have stayed longer. The price was 135 euro single [ A pril 2010 ]

"Dissappointment,So different than the pics

First of all i gotto say that the hotel is so different than the pictures on internet.I am not even sure if those photos were taken in the hotel. So as a couple who were satisfied by the photos and rewievs, we were so dissapoointed when we arrived there. We felt like we were in a cheap hotel from 80s.The staff was not so helpful and smiling as well. They just gave the room key and told us that the breakfast is between 7 and 10. The rooms were just regular, nothing special, nothing fancy like it seems on internet.Breakfast was just OK,but it was good that they leave a basket of croissant and cookies for the ones who wake up late. The hotels in helsinki are not so hip and charming mostly, and also they are expensive. But thankfully we had a good deal on hotels.com so we paid only 120 euros per night, instead of over 200 euros.

Simple Hotel with Great Service

The Ravoli Jardin Hotel is an excellent hotel. Although the rooms were small and simple, they were nice and clean, and good for the cost of the hotel. The hotel has a good location, not too far from the harbor, within easy walking distance of all the downtown attractions. What made this hotel really excellent was the service of the staff. The staff was more than happy to double as tour guides, giving all sorts of advice on places to go, and going out their way to make sure you got to where you wanted to go. The staff had great tips on bars and restaurants. I highly recommend this hotel as an inexpensive place to stay with a very friendly staff.

hotels in helsinki

We will be visiting Helsinki the end of March for 3 days and would like to know what the SAS Plaza hotel, or the Strand InterContinental hotel are like. Had thought of staying at the Scandic Continental but it looks like it is a little way out of town? Have been looking at 4 star hotels that aren't too expensive. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Many thanks.

As I posted here in your earlier question.
The SAS Plaza is OK hotel in the centre. 2 minutes walk from almost any main place in the city centre.
The Scandic Strand Inter Continental is now the Helsinki Hilton, it is located about 1 km from the centre 10 minutes easy walk through small nice park. It will be no problems walking there at day or night, you can also take a tram or metro (2 stops) or taxi for few euros.

....and, again, Scandic Continental is in Helsinki main road nearby the Opera, Finlandia hall and national museum. To walk to the centre will take you about 10 minutes. In the snowstorm at night, maybe 15 ;-)

Thank you for your advice. Sorry, I just realised I already asked a few questions about hotels last week. You say the hotels 'have no character of note'. Is there one that you could suggest that has some character. What is the Rivoli Jardin Hotel like? It looks like it has character? Most of the hotels I have mentioned seem to be very big...I would prefer a smaller one if possible.

If you want to go with a little bit lower budget, I might recommend Hotel Helka: http://www.helka.fi/ It doesn't belong to any chain so it has character and is still a very nice one.

Its only downside is location next to a popular night club, so that the crowd heading home at 4AM might wake you up if you aren't part of it.

As you might know, Finnish hotels are generally high-quality with huge buffet breakfasts always included in price.

The SAS Plaza is VERY nice, so if you want to stick to 4-star ones, that's a good choice.

Oops,
forgot to say that Rivoli Jardin is very nice :-)

"forgot to say that Rivoli Jardin is very nice :-)"

Maybe, but I am not sure if it is worth the 200 euro they charge for a double room.
Even the Hilton charges less. As you come in the end of March, many hotels in Helsinki have special deals for the Easter weekend, as there are no businesses booking on those days.

Q: Do busses run to the airport 24/7? If not, what time do they start? "I need to get to the airport by 6 AM on Sunday (so I probably need to get on the bus around 5:30 AM), will the 615 or the Finnair..."

A: "I walked down to where the 615 departs from but I didn't see any type of time-schedule listed anywhere. :/"
