On May 2, 2013 was my fourth time in “Scandic Marski” hotel in Helsinki, Finland since December 2011. Everything was excellent as usual. Nothing has been changed or worsened. Why I like it? I’m going to repeat it again.
First of all, it takes only five minutes to get the Railway Station from the hotel by walk. There you can take the trains to any other town of Finland or to Saint Petersburg and Moscow, Russia. It takes only three hours and fifty minutes to travel to Saint Petersburg, Russia by “Allegro” train. Big hypermarkets such as the “Stockman”, “Forum” and “Sokos” are situated either in front of the hotel on the other side of Mannerheim Avenue or in the next door building. The National Museum of Finland and Ferry Boat terminal are situated in the ten minutes walking distance. Taking that ferry boat you can get the Suomenlinna (Sveaborg) fortress with its museums. It will take about eighteen minutes walk to get the Military Museum at the intersection of Maurinkatu and Liisankatu Streets.
This time we got the triple room instead of twin one. It was pretty big and all the beds were very comfortable. There were the TV set, refrigerator with mini bar, central heating and air conditioner in the room. Such useful things as the ironing machine and iron were also found in the room. Bath room was big enough and was equipped with the comfortable bathtub. Hairdryer is available in the bathroom too. Everything was quite new and clean.
Free Wi Fi is available in the Hotel and free internet connection via the desk top is available downstairs at the ground or zero floor. Parking although with the limited space but still available.
Food in the restaurant was good and plentiful. Amazingly but it is a matter of fact there were several hundreds people in the restaurant during the breakfast time but there were neither crowds nor long queues and free places at the tables were available. I believe “Marski” should be proud with its restaurant and breakfasts.
Hotel provides you the opportunities to attend free sauna and gym. All personnel were very helpful and spoke fluent English. So, everything is like during the old good times!
I’m sure I’ll stay there again!
Everything is perfect if you get good price. We have stayed here with Finnish "Plussa"-card offers, like 69euros or something.Sadly normal price is about twice that-and those offers are not all the time.
Unique Quality: You couldn´possibly live in more center!
Directions: Near Forum,Stocman and so on..
Scandic Marski enjoys a central location along one of the best known streets in the city, Mannerheimintie, and opposite to the Stockmann department store and the old university building (Vanha Ylioppilastalo). It is named after the great national hero of Finland, a military man, Marshal Carl Emil Mannerheim (nicknamed as Marski). The expectations raised by this name are well met by the hotel although I didn't think it was as luxurious as expected.
Everything is nearby, including the Swedish Theatre, Market Square, Central Railway Station, Helsinki Cathedral and the Esplanadi park, lined with shops and restaurants. It is about 30-40 mins drive from the Helsinki Vantaa airport.
Their rooms are very clean and relatively spacious (12-25m²) with large windows. I had a view towards the street (Mannerheimintie) which just before Christmas looked very pretty. Room decor features lots of wood and parquet flooring and some of the biggest rooms have a sofa.
All rooms have a 27” telly, air-co, clock, hair dryer, radio, safe deposit box, trouser press, bathtub, minibar, pay-tv and queen, single or twin bed. Wireless internet access at no extra charge. You can also request for a non-smoking room. 289 rooms in total.
Free access to the sauna and fitness centre which has 3 saunas and gym. Indoor parking for 100 cars, a business center, two bars, a restaurant and a classy cafe. 24-hour room service, bureau de change, disabled access, pets allowed.
Rooms & Charges
Singles from €193, Doubles from €219, suites from €437. Extra bed from €25. Regular discounts around Christmas and New Year.
Earliest check in: 2pm. Check out: noon.
Unique Quality: Their breakfast buffet is like no other. Loads of food including fruit, cereal, muesli, different kinds of eggs (boiled, scrambled etc.), sausages, fish, yogurt, porridge, bread, croissants, pastry, cold and hot beverages
- central location
- very good bed
- breakfast was plentiful
- Hilton Executive club members get 1 bottle of water, a news paper and a 6 EUR credit for use in their restaurants
- very old (style) and small room even though it was a superior room
- very badly flooding floor drain in an ugly bathroom
- service at the reception hit-and-miss
Overall, we paid 136 EUR for a room not worth over 70 EUR and felt that the hotel does not offer good value for money. The room could have been fine if it had cost half the amount we paid, the drain had been working and we had expected a normal 3 star hotel room. Go to Hilton Strand or Scandic Simonkenttä if you want to use a hotel in the Hilton/Scandic group, that way you get a lot more for your money.
The stay here was great. Big rooms, very clean and well stocked. Loved the ice cube dispenser and mini bar! Beds were comfy and the staff were polite, but not over friendly lol. Food was good but evening meals were expensive here! Sauna facilities were lovely and very relaxing. Would definitly recomment it!
Unique Quality: You are right in the heart of Helsinki on the Mannerheimintie, great access to the market square, shops, pubs, clubs and trams to other locations. Not too noisy despite its central location.
Directions: From the train station front turn to your left and walk up onto the Mannerheimintie. Turn right and walk a short distance. Hotel on your left. DO not take a taxi from the train station. You cant miss it!
Unique Quality: The hotel contains three saunas, indoor parking for 100 cars, a business center, two bars, a restaurant and a cafe.
Prices are approximately singles from EUR 193, doubles from EUR 219, suites from EUR 43.
Directions: The hotel is situated right across the street from Stockmann (department store).
Fantastically well located four star hotel, right on the main street (Mannerheimintie) opposite the Stockmann department store. Virtually everything is within easy walking distance, and there is a tram stop just outside.
We had a very nice (and surprisingly large) room at the front of the hotel (not in the annex, which is cheaper). Two double beds and separate toilet and bathroom (which is quite unusual).
Good breakfast, and there is a good restaurant, bar (which is open quite late), and a coffee bar in the foyer.
A lot of hotels claim to be centrally located, but this one really is at the epicentre. If you can get reasonable rates, it is well worth spending a little extra to stay here, particularly in the winter, or if the weather is not so good.
We have stayed here three times now - in November 2002, December 2005, and again in July 2006.
Unique Quality: Excellent location. Spacious rooms. Good late night bar and restaurant.
Directions: On Mannerheimintie, right opposite the Stockmann department store.
This is a styleful hotel with neat and good rooms. They carry out a luxurious atmosphere. The breakfast is extensive as well. Ask for a room on the streetside; they seem to be bigger than the others.
Unique Quality: The best quality of this hotel is not only the service and the rooms themselves but most of all the place where it´s situated: right in the center!! (across the street from the biggest department store in Finland, namely Stockmann)
Im going on november 5th to Helsinki, hotel scandic marski.
Can you give me real information about this hotel? situation for tourists, near restaurants & bars, ...

Sorry, i´ve got my english a bit loose.
Anothes question: Is the weather so cold as i think?
thank you for your help
We have stayed at the Marski. It is a very good hotel, and excellently located. Right in the centre of the city and very close to everything. There is a tram stop right outside, which is good if the weather is bad! See our tips here on VT:
It shouldn't be too cold at the beginning of November, but it might be a bit wet.
Have a good trip.
