 | Scandic Hotel Marski: Great breakfast

Scandic Marski enjoys a central location along one of the best known streets in the city, Mannerheimintie, and opposite to the Stockmann department store and the old university building (Vanha Ylioppilastalo). It is named after the great national hero of Finland, a military man, Marshal Carl Emil Mannerheim (nicknamed as Marski). The expectations raised by this name are well met by the hotel although I didn't think it was as luxurious as expected. Everything is nearby, including the Swedish Theatre, Market Square, Central Railway Station, Helsinki Cathedral and the Esplanadi park, lined with shops and restaurants. It is about 30-40 mins drive from the Helsinki Vantaa airport. Their rooms are very clean and relatively spacious (12-25m²) with large windows. I had a view towards the street (Mannerheimintie) which just before Christmas looked very pretty. Room decor features lots of wood and parquet flooring and some of the biggest rooms have a sofa. All rooms have a 27” telly, air-co, clock, hair dryer, radio, safe deposit box, trouser press, bathtub, minibar, pay-tv and queen, single or twin bed. Wireless internet access at no extra charge. You can also request for a non-smoking room. 289 rooms in total. Free access to the sauna and fitness centre which has 3 saunas and gym. Indoor parking for 100 cars, a business center, two bars, a restaurant and a classy cafe. 24-hour room service, bureau de change, disabled access, pets allowed. Rooms & Charges Singles from €193, Doubles from €219, suites from €437. Extra bed from €25. Regular discounts around Christmas and New Year. Earliest check in: 2pm. Check out: noon.
Their breakfast buffet is like no other. Loads of food including fruit, cereal, muesli, different kinds of eggs (boiled, scrambled etc.), sausages, fish, yogurt, porridge, bread, croissants, pastry, cold and hot beverages

Fantastically well located four star hotel, right on the main street (Mannerheimintie) opposite the Stockmann department store. Virtually everything is within easy walking distance, and there is a tram stop just outside. We had a very nice (and surprisingly large) room at the front of the hotel (not in the annex, which is cheaper). Two double beds and separate toilet and bathroom (which is quite unusual). Good breakfast, and there is a good restaurant, bar (which is open quite late), and a coffee bar in the foyer. A lot of hotels claim to be centrally located, but this one really is at the epicentre. If you can get reasonable rates, it is well worth spending a little extra to stay here, particularly in the winter, or if the weather is not so good. We have stayed here three times now - in November 2002, December 2005, and again in July 2006.
Excellent location. Spacious rooms. Good late night bar and restaurant. This is a styleful hotel with neat and good rooms. They carry out a luxurious atmosphere. The breakfast is extensive as well. Ask for a room on the streetside; they seem to be bigger than the others.
The best quality of this hotel is not only the service and the rooms themselves but most of all the place where it´s situated: right in the center!! (across the street from the biggest department store in Finland, namely Stockmann)
