Travel Tips for Lappeenranta

Winter or Summer

by Gili_S

If you visit in the winter, remember to take your best jacket, woollen hat & socks, gloves & scarf and your best winter shoes.
If you visit during the summer, forget about all the above list, just remember swimsuit

My hometown Lappeenranta!

by taq

Lappeenranta is a friendly town of great natural beauty with 58,000 inhabitants. It is the administrative, commercial and cultural centre of South Karelia, and a hub of lakeside tourism.
During the summertime (june, july, august) my little town is really worth visiting since we have lots of festivals and very laid back athmosphere all the time.

Winter is a bit slower because I think Finnish people hybernate through the winter and gather energy to party through the whole summer!!! But don't get me wrong, winter is really beautiful and every year we get lots of snow!

Winter Wonderland

by Knutt

Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr... -That was cold!
I spent New Year's Eve in Lappeenranta and I can tell you: It was pretty cold there! Blue sky and -10C of crispy cold air. Wonderful!
The old fortress is amazing and I would really like to see this place in the summer.

Lappeenranta isn't big town. But we
have seen a lot of very interesting place:
- beautiful church in the garden

- embankment of don't know what :) with a beautiful waterfall

- WC, it is something fantastic :) 0,5 euro and this special booth is
opening.. someone told me a story that once one Russian tourists
decided to save some money. After one man went out from the booth
another went to this booth while the door were closed (there is special mechanism for closing the door). But after the door is closed there is cleaning inside the booth. So the second man got wet through ;)

In Finland all shops usually are not working on Sundays and having short day on Saturdays. We've
visited InterSport, one another sport shop, 2 big supermarkets where
we've bought some food and a of course MacDonalds :)
Unfortunately we haven't had chance to visit any clothing stores and etc.

It was time to think about supper and place for sleeping so we have
gone from Lappeenranta to find more wild place where nobody can't
disturb us. And what is more it isn't allowed to put tents in the forest. There are special paid places - campings.

Don't know why but Finish don't gather mushrooms. They are everywhere there. We couldn't go by them so for the supper we had a lot of mushrooms.

Somewhere on the way from Lappeenranta to the islands we have seen beautiful bridge.

In general it's a pleasure to ride a bicycle by Finland. There a lot of special lines so you don't have to think about cars every moment.
Unfortunately in Russia there are no bicycle's lines so we have to go by main road side by side with cars.
