I have never stayed over here but visited once. It is ideally located at the heart of Porvoo. They have only three rooms. The photos can be seen at their webpage. Close to this place is actually a pizza place (best in Porvoo) which I warmly recommend (Gabriel 1763 Bar & Restaurant, Jokikatu 20)
It is absolutely a beautiful place, clean rooms
This hotel changed owner at 2011. It was known as Hotel Porvoon Mitta but today (AUG 2011) its called Hotel Pariisin Ville. To my understanding the hotel aims to offer local products at breakfast and their Wine Bar offers biodynamic or organic products. (ATTN! the photos on my tip are not updated -yet)
Although I have never stayed overnite in this hotel as being local, this is my favorite hotel in Porvoo. Why? Because of it's location, which is in the heart of Old Town and also because all the rooms in the hotel are different, highly decorated and cozy.
The hotel shares it's tiny yard with a food restaurant called Timbaali. Especially during the summer time the yard is very home-like and nice. Despite the fact that the hotel is in center of old town and next to a food restaurant, it is very quiet and calm place to stay overnight. The hotel has few parking spots in the yard. Does it cost something? I do not know but it is worth to ask.
ps. do let me know what you did like your stay if you choce this hotel...
The location is an unique quality when thinking about this hotel. Another unique quality is that this is a family run hotel.
I would most definately recommed this hotel for you. You would not need a car or a bus to get around in Porvoo as the location is so good. In the very same quartier there is a shop selling chocolates made in Porvoo (Brunbergs chocolate fabric)... ;-)
As a whole, Scandinavia can be rather hard on the budget, but you can find inexpensive accommodations if you are so inclined. Porvoo Youth Hostel is, I would guess, approximately 1km or so from the center of Old Town Porvoo, or about 10 -12 blocks according to a map. The hostel is open year round and has 10 rooms with a total of 33 beds. The hostel offers accommodations for singles, doubles, and 4 & 6 person family groups. All rooms come with TV and most have fridges, but baths are shared. All rooms are non-smoking for the comfort and safety of others. There is also a communal kitchen. Sports facilties are nearby (such as a pool, and jogging track).
Sleeping bags are strictly disallowed, but linens can be rented for 4 Euros, and towels for 1 Euro each.
Singles are 28 Euro
Doubles are 18 Euro for each person
3-6 persons are 15 Euros each person
There is a 2,50 Euros discount for members
This hostel definitely out of the way for sightseeing unless you don't mind walking. Most restaurants and other attractions are a good walk away, but the riverfront is not so far. There is a bus station at the "Torget" (Town Square) near the Kaupungintalo Stadhuset about 0.5 km away or so. I think in the case of the hostel, you are trading convenience for the lower cost of accommodations. If you have your own transportation, you will do fine here.
****NEWS: The hotel has changed the owner. The new owner will increase the number or rooms from four to...?*****
I've never stayed in this hotel (as being local) but this it is unique with its location and the fact that it is a family run small hotel. Most of all the decoration and furnitures are unique as they are build by the owners. Local newpaper made a whole page article about the hotel, with few photos from inside and it looked very creative and unique design. The few rooms they have are all decorated in different styles...
Friends of mine stayed in this hotel and they loved the interior, which is really original, and athmosphere of the hotel.
Their webpage is providing only basic information like telephone number, prices and email address but also one will find a couple of photos from there. The photos you must definately CHECK OUT before making a decision where to stay.
If I were looking for an accommodation in city center, this could be my choise (a bit out otherwise).
The hotel is perfectly located in the heart of old town, next to the Cathedral and yet the city center. The main market square is within 500 metres and since the hotel is located in the heart of the Old town... If you are looking for a calm place to stay within a unique location and athmosphere...this is your choise!
But if you are looking for some evening/night life I would recommend Hotel Seurahovi instead in city center next to the market place.
As a local I've never used their services but I wanted to provide you info that we do have one camping site in Porvoo. Also I think its nicely located: there is an outdoor swimming pool in Kokonniemi recreation center close by.
Situated 7 km's from Porvoo. This would be really an experience!
As being a local inhabitant I haven't never used their services. The accommondation price includes breakfast and this is very unique stay at Finnish countryside, only one hour drive from Helsinki!
Open 1.6.-31.8. and other time on order according to their webpage.
Price: from 30€/person/night
Possibility for a accommodation in double rooms, traditional outbuildings or cottages in Finnish scenery.
Experience a traditional, over 100 years old smoke sauna...
Their webpage has more information and "Kuvagalleria" has some photos of the place. Indeed a BEAUTIFUL and Unique place to stay over-night.
Economical and cosy stay in a hostel. Single and double rooms, and four and six persons' family rooms. A total of 10 rooms and 33 beds. All sights and services of Porvoo nearby. Next to an indoor swimming pool, a sports hall, a playground and lit fitness paths.
Open all year. The rooms are available from 4 p.m. until 10 a.m. next day. The hostel is closed from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. That is weird I know. Another wierd thing is that you cannot use sleep in a sleeping bag, altough I dunno how do they control that. Own linens are ok.
