Laavu Kirnuhuoko: outdoors and yet a roof over your head

As already in my Lapland pages described, a laavu is an excellent option to any tent.

Because laavus are very common in finnish national parks you easily get use to them and even start relying on them.

A laavu is a wooden building with aroof and either 4 or 3 corners depending on the built, but sure is that one side is open normally towards a fire place. Sometimes the laavu has a low wooden wall going around the fire place which gives the site a perfect wind protection.

This particular laavu was amidst a rock formation which gave the site a cosiderable protection. It was quite funny to wake here up after having come in complete darknes... little was our astonishment when we saw wht the site looked like in day light...

A laavu is where it is, you don't have to carry it along, don't have to built it up in the darkness...

But because they are so convenient and popular they usually are ver crowded - this mainly during high season, which means summer and autumn in Finland.
