There is no reception, you need a code to go in.
But when I arrived the keybord to digit the code was broken and I had to wait 1 hour for technical assistence (with a lot of other hosts)
Rooms are not bad for the price you pay. The bathroom was very small, but clean.
ON SATURDAY NIGHT THE CORRIDORS ARE FULL OF DRUNKHARD PEOPLE (someone vomiting!). There is a guardian (Securitas) looking for them, but pay attention.

Omenahotelli (Apple hotel) is a centrally located and clean hotel without reception or personnel. Pretty much everything is automated. It is offering quite a good value for the money especially because four people can stay in a same room for the price. Book in the Internet.
Directions: The centre of the town
Hotelli Omena is situated on the main street of Tampere, in Hämeenkatu. Most of the things that you want to see in Tampere are within walking distance.
Rooms are basic, accomodating 1-4 people in one double and in one sofa bed. Rooms are ensuite and they also have a fridge and a microwave.
Price is cheap, only 55€/room/night.
Unique Quality: There is no personnel in a hotel; when you book a room, you get a code which operates as your key to your room.
I haven´t bee there myself, but heard it´s very nice. It´s allways same price(55e for1-4 people) and best location of what ever you want to do. It´cheap becouse there´s no breakfast(if you take some kind of businespacket with 16e extra, then you get a breakfast). In same buildig theres a cafe serving good breakfast.,and you have to clean the place yourself.
There´s no reception either-it´s kind of internet-hotel owned by Finish "pizza-ceasar",who owns Finlands biggest pizzachain"Kotipizza".There´s 3 other Omena´s i Finland too(Ruka(Lappland),Vaasa&Turku).
DATED:Now there´s Omena at helsinki, too, but it´s not so cheap allways-sometimes you can find something else cheaper.Like in this April they had weekend-price 77e,when Simonkenttä had 80e the cheapest room, and Simonkenttä is four star hotel WITH breakfast.Alltough it´s usually expenive-now I found that price in www.hotels.com
Unique Quality: You are right on the mainstreet.Rooms are new.(Hotel founded 2004,if I remember right)
DATED 2th April 2008:They have changed pricing:It´s not allways same price-it´s now like in Ryanair-when you book earlier, you have it cheaper.
There is a breakfast-cafe Linkosuo at same house, behind the corner. They seem to offer breakfast for 7,50e in buffet-tables,so eat all you can.
Directions: At the mainstreet
We stayed at Hotel Omena on business, for six days. This is a new type of hotel for Finland - cheap, but cheerful, and centrally located in the main street. We were very pleased. Basic room rate was 55 Euros per night, we supplemented this with the 'business package' (free internet, plus Pay-TV) for a further 12 Euros per night. The Internet was worth it, the Pay TV was not - I wrote to the hotel after our stay and they told me they intend to improve the Pay-TV with more changes to in-room movies. There are no staff at the hotel - you check in using a keypad with a unique PIN nmber which also opens the door to your room. This was surprisingly nice - quicker than check-in, and felt like an apartment more than a hotel. The room was basic but big enough, with microwave and kettle plus a comfortable sofa. Location was very central - right in the main street, opposite Skos department store and cafe, and some older shopping arcades. There is also a supermarket opposite, where we bought food for some nights when we did not feel like going out. I recommend it very highly as a cheap and cheerful, central location.
Unique Quality: The hotel is in the middle of the main street (Hameenkatu) and so is surprisingly well placed. It is very cheap by comparison with other Tampere hotels, and the room was really quite nice.
While the outside of the building and its entrance might lead you to believe that you've booked average accomodation your opinion will change when you enter your room.
My stay was very comfortable, almost luxurious. I had the room to myself, but if I had shared it with another person it would have exqualled the cost of some hostels I've stayed at. But it was still a great price just for me.
Unique Quality: The rooms are new, well furnishes with a double bed, couch (that folds out into a bed), dining table and chairs, fridge, microwave, wardrobes with plenty of hanging space, newly modelled bathrooms and a large TV with internet access and the option of cable (you pay extra).
The rooms can take 1-4 people and have a flat fee per night no matter how many people stay in the room (55€).
There are 105 rooms in this hotel and elevators to take you to whichever floor you are on.
I definitely recommend this hotel!
Directions: Hämeenkatu is a main road in Tampere, the hotel is at the opposite end to the train station.
Well, as I'm from Tampere, I don't usually stay at hotels in here :) But now there's a new and inexpensive choice of accomodation right in the main street Hämeenkatu. It's called Omenahotelli and the price per room is €55 and you can put 1-4 persons in the room (in practise if someone is prepared to sleep on the floor, you can put even more). There's not much personnel and everything is automated, so that's how they can keep the price so low. Anyway, the rooms are very clean and comfy. Check out the web page

Okay, this is for traveller who want's "cheap" hotel, and who don't care much of the roomservice... The location is right on the main street. 1km from the railwaystation...
I just haven't been there.. because I live almost next to the building.. he he.
But as much as I have seen, there are many travellers with their rucksacks :-D
Let the website tell the rest..
never staid here, as i live in the city. also the hotel´s quite new. Heard good recommendations.
Unique Quality: there´s no staff in the hotel. all reservations,
payments and checking in/out computerised.

Directions: in the end of the main street, Hameenkatu
