Tampere's new hostel!

For a long time, Sofia Hostel was the only low-cost option in Tampere until „Dream Hostel“ opened in 2010. This place is located in an older building, but inside, everything is new – almost cold and sterile. The atmosphere however is not. As in every hostel, most people you will meet here are backpackers in their twenties and it was easy to meet some new friends. There was a small common area next to the kitchen and close to an exit to the backyard. The latter is used by smokers as it is the only place where smoking is allowed in the hostel. The kitchen is free for everyone to use, but there is nobody who will prepare breakfast for you. That means that you have to buy your own stuff – coffee and tea are free however. If you do not like that option, there are discount vouchers for a breakfast café available at the reception.

Unique Quality: The rooms are all named after one of the sights in Tampere. They are clean with white being the predominant colour. Toilets and showers are in front of the rooms. Showers are cabin style and are thus unisex. The same goes for the toilets, however, there are also a few „women only“ cabins. The hostel is located close to the Tullintori shopping center, to the east of the central station. That said, you will have a supermarket nearby and only a five minute walk to the city centre.
I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a clean and cheap option to stay in Tampere. However, you will have to keep in mind that this is Finland. That means that even if you could get a better place in another country for the same price as „Dream Hostel“, you will hardly find anything for that price in Finland.
