For a long time, Sofia Hostel was the only low-cost option in Tampere until „Dream Hostel“ opened in 2010. This place is located in an older building, but inside, everything is new – almost cold and sterile. The atmosphere however is not. As in every hostel, most people you will meet here are backpackers in their twenties and it was easy to meet some new friends. There was a small common area next to the kitchen and close to an exit to the backyard. The latter is used by smokers as it is the only place where smoking is allowed in the hostel. The kitchen is free for everyone to use, but there is nobody who will prepare breakfast for you. That means that you have to buy your own stuff – coffee and tea are free however. If you do not like that option, there are discount vouchers for a breakfast café available at the reception.
Unique Quality: The rooms are all named after one of the sights in Tampere. They are clean with white being the predominant colour. Toilets and showers are in front of the rooms. Showers are cabin style and are thus unisex. The same goes for the toilets, however, there are also a few „women only“ cabins. The hostel is located close to the Tullintori shopping center, to the east of the central station. That said, you will have a supermarket nearby and only a five minute walk to the city centre.
I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a clean and cheap option to stay in Tampere. However, you will have to keep in mind that this is Finland. That means that even if you could get a better place in another country for the same price as „Dream Hostel“, you will hardly find anything for that price in Finland.
Check out their website for better pictures - I am just realizing that I have only pictures of room doors....
Directions: From the train station, take the tunnel leading under the railway tracks and turn right at the first junction. After 5-10 minutes you will see Åkerlundinkatu on the right hand side. The way from the coach station is similar short.
A new design hostel has been opened in Tampere. I have been staying there 3 times and its absolutely fantastic :) you might find cheaper joints in town, but this is friendliest and trendiest for sure! Would recommend to anyone with sense of money and good time!
Unique Quality: -Great design - honestly!

There's rather cheap new hostel closte to railway station. They just opened, have no idea how it looks like. I just saw the stickers in windows :D Google could be helpful and tell you more, the name is Dream Hostel.
(I ended up adding this as a tip, if one needs a place to stay in Tampere. I haven't slept there, so I cannot say anything about it).
Unique Quality: I live in Tampere so I have no need to use this, but I add something or ask my friends to do so when they have test-slept it.
Directions: Tulli area
This place has just opened.
There has only been one "real" hostel in Tampere, and because of Ryanair many people have asked me about hostels.I have had many questions about Uimahallin maja, but it is closed-and it wont open again ever.
About this one:
Some rooms are for two,but most beds are at one big room, like at many hostels.
The cheapest bed is 22,50e and there is also some rooms for two witch are 65e per room.
There´s also rooms for four, witch can be bookde by the bed or for the group of four. And one possiblility is a a female dorm for 10.
Check more from their pages.
Unique Quality: Very cetral, close to Tullikamari rock-club and University. Some people even say, this is a new"heart" of the town.If you don´t agree, don´t worry-you´ll walk to Hämeenkatu (mainstreet) in 5min.
There is a kitchen with all cooking-facilities,and even a freezer,if you need.Check the facilities at their page also.
Staff asked me to give this link here. It gives all the rooms, when Booking.com gives only some of the rooms:
