If it is OK for you to travel, and sleep in one time, then you can try the Viking Line -and I think all of the Lines- ships, so you can visit Finland and Sweden as well. On the boat you dont need to reserve room for you, you can sleep on a shared room with some people. The cheapest ticket is around 20 euros from Turku to Stockholm without room reservation. So the boat is cheap for sleeping as well. Theme: OtherPrice: US$20-40 » Currency ConverterComparison: least expensiveAddress: boat Viking Line

This is the second time that I have stayed this far north of Finland. The hotel offers great food and comfy rooms. Breakfast and evening meal are buffet style and a good choice.

The first two times that I went to Finland I stayed at the Hotel Anna. So last year I decided to stay in apartments for a change. the Fenno Apartments are roughly 10 minutes away from Helsinki on the 3T tram. I was able to buy food and try Finnish food for a change. I would go back to those apartments again and they worked out alot cheaper than 3 star hotels, and you have that freedom of coming and going as and when you pleased. I stayed in these apartments again in September 2007.
Free morning sauna and if you wanted to have breakfast with other tourists you can go down to the canteen, which I did not use. There is a hob, microwave and a fridge in your room. It's on Suomenlinna. I thought it was a great location. Others may not like having to take the ferry back and forth but it never bothered me.

Busy hostel with open doors and seemingly lack of security. The atmosphere was everything but not "fun", it was more like a cheap motel. Theme: HostelPrice: US$40-80 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: Olimpia Stadium, Helsinki

This is a modern, full service hotel in the northern part of Helsinki. It has all the amenities you would want: clean, fairly large rooms, helpful staff, and is located right on one of the main tram lines to downtown Helsinki. The staff were very professional and helpful, and understood our English without a problem. A high point of the hotel is the breakfast included in the price. It was served in a very large restaurant, and had a LOT of choices of hot and cold items. You could eat European or American style breakfast dishes, and take as much as you wanted. The only drawback we encountered was that our room was on the street side, and located directly over the tram stop. The noise in the evening of people coming out of the city and in the early morning of taking passengers there was considerable. If you're going to stay here, and want to sleep in, ask for a room away from the street .
